Viewing party at Ricky's in San Leandro on 6/18 (?)

So according to the HDNet website there were two places to watch the network in the Bay Area:

    Green's Sports Bar
    2239 Polk St
    San Francisco, CA
    Phone: (415) 775-4287

    and

    Ricky's Sports Theatre and Grill
    15028 Hesperian Blvd.
    San Leandro, CA
    Phone: (510) 352-0200

Now IIRC, I remember a post in the SF viewing thread about the negative experience someone had in trying to have an MLS game shown on the screen there. If you're reading this please re-post your experience here (I'm too lazy to hunt those comments down at the moment).

This would leave Ricky's as the choice to see this game, if the Regal Cinema option doesn't plan out. The owner himself is a bit of a soccer fan and I've viewed several games there myself. Is there enough interest in doing this? I'll be happy to make the phone calls if there are enough people interested. Provided there isn't a game 7 in the NBA finals (which would be on at the same time, and I don't think we'd outdraw those folks, but I'd like to be wrong:)) I think it would make for a nice viewing party.

    Guy,
I'd be interested in the Ricky's venue for the viewing party, but since i have to come such a long way to get there, it would have to be a pretty definite thing, to get me there. So you can count me as a definite maybe.

Since I work in SF, and it's a Wednesday night, I'll have to try the Green's option.

    We shall see...

Lessee...listen to the game on the radio, or watch it in HDTV while having a few beers? Hmmmm...

It's close, but I'm gonna have to join you Guy.

And FYI - for those of you who haven't a clue about San Leandro (like myself), according to Mapquest, Ricky's is like a couple of blocks from the Bay Fair BART station, making transpo very convenient for those of us who are living the car-free lifestyle.

I'll post more details about the location if we can do it, but Ricky's is within walking distance of the Bayfair BART station.

    Guy

p.s. after what I'd read, I'd call before going to Green's; I'd hate to go and give them any money w/o conformation of the game being shown.

Greens sucks, go to Kezar Pub on Stanyan, that's where most SF fans go, much more soccer friendly.

Does Kezar have HDTV and are they carrying this game?

I live like 2 seconds from Ricky's so that would be awesome. Walking from Bayfair BART is totally do-able. It's only about 2-3 blocks. This is a good option.

If that's the case, count me as one of the possibles.

    Guy you made my day!!

The thought of missing this game had been eating away at me since I couldn't take time off to travel to LA.

Rickey's sounds like a great plan, count me and my wife in.

HDNet is currently the only network carrying the game so far thus it won't be part of the Shootout package. Therefore Kezar would not be able to show this game, nor would any pub or bar in the area unless they were set up for HDNet. Green's and Ricky's are the only places listed.

I'll stop by Ricky's this weekend, and see how it flies. I also sent a general e-mail to the Quakes office to see if they want to make this an official viewing party. Who knows maybe we can get the numbers get priority over any NBA game 7 crowd.

p.s. I just realized the game doesn't start until 7:30pm. With the NBA game having a 5:00pm start, there might not be any conflict to deal with at all!

It was a thread about the Quakes season opener, and then there were a few comments afterward so look for it in early-to-mid April.

    Here's a suggestion, in case Ricky's doesn't work out.

Go to your local Circuit City / Best Buy / Good Guys or other TV and video equipment store, and see if they sell HDTV equipment. If so, they probably get HDNet as the "demo channel" for HD programming since most of the stuff on TV is not HD -- HDNet is pretty much the only station they can show all day long in HD.

So on Wednesday the 18th, at 7:30 PM, you may be able to go to your store for a demo and watch HDNet. The demo might take a while, a couple of hours maybe, so you can get the full HD experience.

    Here's another suggestion:

Drive to Redwood City. Look up "Reeves, B." in the phone book and go to the address. Look for the hidden key under the door mat. Let yourself in and watch the game in style on the brand new HDTV theater system that you find in the den (down the left hallway, behind the mahogany doors). After witnessing the Quakes rout LA, leave postcard on the refrigerator saying, "Bill- Wish you were here. love, the guys"

    GAME ON!!!

    18 June - Quakes @ HDC 7:30pm at Ricky's

I talked with the owner and his wife on Saturday, and they'd love to have us there. I mentioned my concern with the overlap of a possible Game 7 of the NBA finals, and he said that he would find a way to accommodate us.
I'd like to have a rough head count of folks I can give him by the 14th. So if you can e-mail me at ggayle@pipeline.com if you can make it, that would be great (if you've replied already in this thread don't worry about contacting me). I have a feeling we can get enough people that we can have the main room to watch this game in full HDTV.

I'm going to forward this info to the Quakes and to Club Quake to see if they'll send out a e-mail about the viewing.

    Ricky's
    15028 Hesperian Blvd

It's less than 1/2 mile from Bayfair BART station.

I've made the walk before from BART to Ricky's. Takes around 10 minutes or so. Not too bad. Im in SF but I'll probably still make the trip out there for the match

Damn! I would so go but 6/18 is the day I'm getting back from vacationing in Hawaii. That really sucks too since Ricky's is about a 3 minute drive from my house. I would definitely have gone. Well I'll just have to wait to come back to check the score. Have fun watching you guys!

as long as neither brit has HDNet and its not on the shootout, I'll make Ricky's the offical Club Quake viewing party for this game. I'll check tonight and send out an email to CQ members shortly about this and Saturday's game.
