Agreed, Tony. I really want to believe that the match is going to be televised, but if it is, I sure can't find it anywhere. It isn't on HDNet, and it isn't on Direct Kick. Unless it is on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, I am betting to my chagrin that it is not going to be televised. I went to the Dallas site, and it lists no broadcast for that match. Maybe Stan is going to videotape it, and send it out through his phone. That should be fun. Geeze, I wish it was on TV.

That game should be on Comcast Cable local access. The Rapids haven't announced the channel yet.

Many of the MLS clubs are favoring cable local access this season instead of FOX Sports Net because of cost and because MLS wants to do business with Comcast to keep ESPN and FOX in check.

I am not thrilled about this because I don't have Comcast, just DirecTV.

In regards to the feed from Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, my DirecTV guide shows the Rockies pre-season show airing during the time the Rapids are playing. I hope thats wrong, but I am afraid it is not!!!

 

When I was programming my PVR for the games next Saturday, I was shocked to see Colorado vs Dallas listed. So...it appears that we'll get to see at least that game. I can't tell from the description whether it's coming via FSRM, local access or the raw feed.

It would be really nice for the RFO to let everyone know what the plan is for TV coverage. How hard is that?

 

Well, this is a thread to get people to come out to watch the game at a local bar. I understand where you're coming from, and I'm sure you can find out what channel the game is on some other way. But if I was the RFO and was trying to get a good sized group to The Celtic to watch this game, I don't think I'd add a sentence that read "And if you don't want to watch the game with us and spend a little cash, just tune in to Channel ** from the comfort of your own home." That's not the purpose of this thread.

 

When they say 'keep ESPN/FOX in check', do they mean 'discourage the 2 biggest 'free' sports networks in the US from doing business with them'?

Also, I would hope that the aim for the RFO is to get lots of people more interested in the Rapids, certainly more than would fit in one bar. I understand that they would like a good turn out for the party, but I think they would want more a good turnout for the first home match. If people get a chance to watch, and the Raps play decently, then I think there is a better chance of that happening. So, tell use the details!!

 

Eh? Since when are ESPN and Fox Sports (World and Rocky Mountain) free?

They dominate the cable business, ask whatever programming fees they want to, and basically your cable / satellite bill goes up every 6 months because of them. And when I say "them," I very specifically mean ESPN, who then forces all carriers to add (and pay for) ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPNews and more.

So, please don't say free, or even 'free' when they are anything but... Turns out you are paying for them if you watch anything but over-the-air television. So am I. And I don't get enough soccer on either ESPN or FSRM (and Fox Sports World is only in a $12 sports channel package for DirecTV subscribers like myself).

I fully agree with keeping the sports networks in check. They bid an astronomical amount to air American football games, then charge you for that pleasure. Ouch. Right now, I get one lousy soccer game a week on ESPN2, since I'm saving my money for the MLS Direct Kick package.

Of course, the odds are the Rapids' are going with Comcast because they have an easier time negotiating to run local programming through Comcast. I doubt--especially with the ASE network coming online--that they really care about a short-term beatdown on Fox and ESPN.

It's on channel 462 on Dish Network next Saturday, 4/3, at 6:30pm. I can't find it listed anywhere except on the onscreen guide, though...

 

Picky picky, my point was that they're not a PPV station, nor one you have to pay for on an individual basis (HBO etc). At any rate, I fail to see how possibly alienating the major sports networks helps to promote MLS, sure sounds to me like another example of Kronke putting his overall interests over that of the team.

 

Why should we fans have to "find out what channel the game is on some other way"? Isn't it the RFO's job to fill us in on this? If they don't know for sure yet, then fine, just say "TBD". It's less than a week until opening day, why isn't this TV mess cleaned up yet?

I appreciate the RFO arranging away viewings, but not all of us have fistfuls of disposable income to throw around. Or jobs that'll let us get away with taking the middle of the day off. Maybe we don't care for the venue (don't get me started on Croc's), or have some other event that we can't get out of, or just don't feel like being bullied into spending money.

The point of the away viewings is camaraderie. Those who want to get together will find a way to get together. What difference does it really make where I (or any of us) watch an away game from? And why should that decision determine whether or not I (or any of us) have to research what channel said game is on. Besides, I've ALREADY spent a little cash by buying season tickets. For that money I expect season TV info.

Since I'm working (and I know what channel it's on ) I'm taping the POL/USA game. I do plan on being at the Celtic for the opener though, FWIW.

 

My kid's got a high fever, so I'll be hoisting an (ahem) NA beer and pretending I'm at the Celtic gettin' sloppy on a sunny afternoon day and enjoying the show. <sniff>

I will say, if the game's boring (like Holland) that'll be good because it'll put my kid back to sleep. It'll be bad because it puts me back to sleep.

But, I've got hopes that no matter how often our fearless leader Arena says that these are just meaningless warm-up games and friendlies designed to try out US players, there comes a time to step on the gas.

So, is anyone planning on going to catch the Dallas game?
If I want to sit around by myself in my Rapids shirt drinking beer, I'll stay home.
But, if there will be some fellow Crapids (I just like typing that) fans at the Celtic Saturday night, I'll don some black and blue, throw back a few (slightly more expensive) Newcastles and watch our boys in the season opener with my newfound friends.

I am hoping to come Saturday night, but I need a little info. Can anyone tell me about parking? I don't spend much time downtown, and I want to be prepared. Will I have to park in a lot, does the Celtic have any parking, are there meters, and if so, what do they cost? Is the Celtic small so that I better get there early so that I don't have to sit in the restroom to find a seat? Should I eat something before I come, or is there decent food to be had? I am excited about the start of this season, and would like to meet some of the other Big Soccer faithful, and no, my nose isn't quite as big as it looks in my picture!! See you all there!!! Smudgy... If I remember correctly there are both coin meters and pay lots right by the Celtic. I'd think $5 would be more than enough to park for a couple of hours. See you there!
