Vieira confirmed by club. http://www.espnfc.us/new-york-city-fc/story/2706275/patrick-vieira-named-new-york-city-fc-head-coach
This just makes me further believe that Kreis was mainly fired so they could bring in their shill as practice before he takes over at Man City. Absolute disgrace.
Yow. I thought that Vieira had denied these rumours. While no one doubts Vieira's ability to command respect and to communicate with players, it's the understanding of MLS player-acquisition rules that is likely to bedevil him -- or any other foreign coach, be it Ancelotti, Mourinho, Guardiola, or whomever you'd like to name. Unless the team is going to appoint an experienced MLS executive to a GM-type role overseeing player acquisition, the hiring of Vieira as manager is extremely risky. I was in favour of Kreis's sacking; but this hiring puts that move in a new light.
This is why I wasn't in favor of the move. I read that the Nemec, Calle, and Mendoza signings were all Reyna's moves. Kreis asked for a certain type of player and all he got was crap. I'm really not loving this move but I'll wait until next season is over before I slam this move.
I just fail to see what the long term goal is. At least two of our DP's won't make it another two years. Our new coach is only here just to get his feet wet before going back to the mothership. And we bring these MCFC loans who don't stay more than a season. There's no longevity in this project at all. In two years we will just be starting all over again.
I mean - to be fair, Red Bull went through the same growing pains. AND it was kinda important to bring in big names for the debut season. As it evolves, priorities hopefully will change.
This and the fact that IF Vieira is a success and that's a big if there's no guarantee he takes over at Man City. I keep hearing they're going to sign Pep from Bayern and if they do he'll be there for at least 2 to 3 years. In that time It would take Vieira winning an MLS cup or two and putting out a good team all the way for Man City to even think about putting him anywhere near the first team as head coach. I think more then likely he'll be fired here and just made the youth coach all over again.

This guy could have been a good choice . David Moyes is tailor-made for MLS and would be a great fit ... worldsoccertalk
New York City FC's Patrick Vieira offers more thoughts on new job in part two of exclusive interview Part Two:
Most of the successful ones were MLS or NASL players before coaching in MLS. I think that's a different group than MLS virgins like Vieira.
