Sign up for the Video Game draft here. You may select any game from any computer, game console, arcade machine, or other device that meets the Wikipedia definition of "video game". You should provide a picture, a brief description of the game, and your justification for selection. Standard rules. 10 rounds, unless you all prefer some other number.
I am in. Two assumptions, sort of questions: I think some series are easier than others to pick ONE game out of for your draft. I take it you expect us to make those hard picks and not try to draft a whole series? On the other hand expansion packs are included in our pick unless we specify otherwise?
Ok, more complex rules: 1) You may select any game from any computer, game console, arcade machine, or other device that meets the Wikipedia definition of "video game". You should provide a picture, a brief description of the game, and your justification for selection. 2) You can only pick one game out of a series, even if sequels use the same engine and graphics. You can't pick a compilation release that combine multiple games. If the game was released multiple times with different engines, but is otherwise essentially the same, picking it gets you the game in every format. 3) If a game comes with a single player mode and a multiplayer mode, you get both aspects. If the game is a purposeful collection of bespoke small games (like Wii party games), or multiple game variants (like many Atari 2600 games), you get all of them. If the game includes easter egg mini games, you get that as well. 4) If a game was released in multiple formats (like arcade and home computer forms), picking it gets you the game in every format without the burden of defending bad versions. That means you can pick an arcade game without needing to defend the Atari 2600 version of it. If one port is particularly good, you can specifically describe and justify that one, but other ports are still off the table for the rest of the draft. 5) Picking a game gets you all its related expansion packs and DLC. These will be defined as software that requires the original game in order to work. Same with games that are continually upgraded (like certain on-line games). 6) You do not get user-created content as part of a selection, but the fact that the game caters to user-created content (for example, by providing development tools) may be used as justification for selecting a game. If the user-created content markedly changes the game, you can select that as a different game. I can think of one game that came in multiple releases, but makes sense as one pick. If someone picks it (and I think someone will), we can discuss it then.
@Crimen y Castigo - I think you need to move this to the Video Games subforum. Actually, posting a note there for the gamers on the site to see and join the draft if they want would probably be a good idea.
So we're just picking games and saying why they're great? Can we include mobile games too, like iOS and Android games? Count me in!
Seeing as mobile games fall under wikipedia's definition of video games, then I'd say yes to that. Oh, and I'm in ...
noob question, I'm very interested in the Video Game draft, I've never done one of these drafts, how does it work?
You need a new job, clearly. I did a movie draft a while back, and if memory serves all those involved are sorted into a random (?) order and pick for a certain number of rounds. Once you pick, you have to DM the next person who will then make their pick, and so on, and so forth.
Basically, any electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. So no pinball or electronic chess where you move pieces on a smart board.
This is the sign-up thread, suggestions can stay in the other thread I see you're already in though so we're up to about 12 people already.
Spejic, I'm gonna have to pass this time after giving it some thought. I hope the draft is fun for the rest of you.
