Any recommendations for good video editing software? I've recorded a couple of hours of video and some 200 stills from our trip to India and Paris and I want to make a DVD of it.

Also, any recommendations for good sound editing software? I recorded by 92 year old grandfather giving the family history, but at time it's really hard to hear his voice because of background noise. I'd like to filter as much of that out as possible.

    Thanks,

    Sachin

I don't know how good the software is compared to others but it gets the job done for me. It has about hundred effects you can add to the video and supports converting to a dozen formats.

With the limited knowledge I have and software (Creative MediaSource) that came with my excellent sound card (Sound Blaster Audigy 2) this is what I would do to reduce the background noise ...

    1. Extract audio from the video using Arcsoft Showbiz.
    2. Import it to Creative MediaSource
    3. Open the EAX console in CM, Enable Audio Effects, choose Advanced EQ and Vocal which enhances the voice and lowers the background noise
    4. Select Recording Source "What U Hear" and format "WAV Stereo 48khz, 16 bit"
    5. Play audio, push the 'REC' button and make sure I'm not making any sound on my pc for the duration of recording.
    6. Open Arcsoft showbiz and import the recorded audio.
    7. Add the video and recorded audio to the storyboard.
    8. Mute the original audio in 'Entire Project'
    9. Play and see if the audio and video synchronize, adjust if they don't
    10. Get busy with the editing

    Hope that helps somehow.

I'd suggest Adobe Premier, then Final Cut Pro. these, to me, are the most intuitive. They're also the most solid and bugfree

Are you using a PC or Mac? If it's a PC I can't help you, but on a Mac there's iMovie or iDVD, both come with the OS and are not expensive like Final Cut Pro, which takes some learning.

If you just want to cut and paste and maybe add a couple of tiles use Windows Movie Maker..I use wavepad and soundforge, you could use "noise reduction" and see if that works...
