If anyone has access to clips of it, by all means post them here. No clips of it being used to make crosses. Just to score please.

The last time I saw a player attempt it was River Plate's Nando Cavenaghi last year and the dude didn't score but shot wide of the post.

Tote attempted to score a goal with a rabona in one of his very few appearances for Real Madrid last season. I think it might have been a champion's league match - home to Juve? can't remember but I know he missed and was widely criticised in the Spanish press.

All I can find is that it is a term associated with tango but originally comes from soccer. Still no help.

Rabona A walking step with a syncopated cross. Done forward or backward the dancer steps on a beat, quickly closes the
other foot in cruzada, and steps again on the next beat. Adopted from soccer.

    here we go

this from MLSnet's description of their skills competition:

The Central Division earned a momentary lead on the night with their players' performance in the Gol Olimpico competition but it was forward Luis Hernandez's effort on the chip shot phase of the event that
won over the Spartan Stadium crowd. With a delightful move, called 'la rabona', where he elegantly brought his left foot behind his right leg to chip the shot, Hernandez netted two of his three attempts and totaled four points.

I used to play with a Jamaican guy that did this all the time.

fall of 2002 i saw a video on bigsoccer from one of the brazilian leagues...i think the vid was from O globo actually. anyways, the quality was only so-so, but the brazilian scored with a rabona. it was spectacular, to say the least, but he was just outside the goal box when he shot, at the most 8 yards away. perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the goal, however, was that he couldn't have scored it any other way. the ball took a weird bounce on the cross, and the player simply had an amazing instinctive reaction to reach for the ball after it had passed by him. the reason he couldn't have scored any other way is because he was balanced on his right foot i believe, when the ball took the weird bounce, and he didn't have time to do anything but reach for it with his left foot going behind his right leg. it was an amazing goal, but not the class of van der vaart's from a couple months ago.

going with the weird trick shots that scored theme, has anyone ever seen a "scorpion" used in a game? i actually did it in an indoor intramural game at my college last year, and i have to say, that was my epiphany as a soccer player. i'll probably never do anything even remotely as spectacular as that was. and it was just an instinctive reaction, no planning on my part. i think i was just as suprised as anyone that i did it, and the fact that i not only connected but sent a powerful shot that the goalie had no chance to stop made me want to just walk off the court right there and call it a night, seeing as how there was no way i or anyone could top that.

I saw Pele do a rabona first. Maradona and Romario set up goals for others using that technique more than once. Rivaldo is probably the only guy I have seen score multiple goals using that technique.

You know who the greatest exponent of the rabona technique is? Falcao, the World Futsal Player of the Year. He is amazing to watch. Another guy who keeps scoring using the rabona technique.
