Howard v Porto [Big Time R]

Not even Tim Howard could save Man U from Champion's League elimination due to a 90th minute goal by Porto.

That was a bad rebound to give up. You have to punch that over the bar or something.

This is one of those times technique would have won out over athleticism.

What the Hell was he doing moving before the shot was taken?

Timmy should have held on to that ball.

But what the hell was O'Shea (#22) doing standing around like a statue? From the set-up to the free kick, he's obviously marking Costinha. But he watches the ball fly through the air as if he's watching TV, and Costinha gets around him easily to be in perfect position to score on the rebound. Tommy blames Wes Brown for not being quick enough in that clip, but Costinha was O'Shea's man and Brown was just covering his ass. By the time Costinha gets to the rebound, O'Shea is about 5 yards behind him!

I hope Timmy doesn't get the brunt of the criticism for this. He made an imperfect save on a tough shot, and should have done better, but O'Shea should be the real goat here. Watch the clip in slow motion and take a look for yourself.

who should be blamed for the goal, Howard for not punching the ball out, Brown for getting too slow to block the shot, Gerry Neville for the fault, or Ferdinand for his behaviour leading to his suspension. I was very disappointed....,

Sorry, Timmy gets the blame here. 89th minute, you do NOT put that ball back into play. Period.

That's not to say it's unforgivavble. Goalkeepers more than anyone learn from experience, and if anyone expected TH to have a mistake free CL campaign, well, then, ummm...well they shouldn't have.

    TH will be fine.

Much obliged on the link as always, but he's been off the team for 9 months. I'm going to copy this thread to Yanks Abroad forum, and lock it here.

If anyone wants to discuss the "it was his fault" vs. "it wasn't his fault", you can do so in the match PBP thread or the copy there. Whichever side of that call you fall on, it's not a Metro discussion.

Thank you again for the link though, Bigfoot.
