At least two dead following soccer celebrations

Thousands of fans flooded the streets of Monterrey to celebrate their team's first soccer title in 17 years, leaving at least two people dead and about 200 arrested Sunday.

The violence came after Rayados played Morelia to a scoreless tie to capture the championship.

    From the above article:
"But radio stations in Mexico City cited public safety officials for Nuevo Leon state, where Monterrey is located, in reporting that five people were killed and that police briefly took more than 200 people into custody"

can you guys confirm and tell me, if riots came out in USA from the lakers 1st or 3 championships, in San francisco the year before for basebal game in playoffs, in toronto 2 yrs earlier

and somewhere in milwaukee for a basketball team win?

they are so concern , about the 5dead, I am sure they were borrachos that fell of a truck or something to that effect....

Yes, there were riots in LA, unfortunately. However, it was only after the first championship, and no one died. The property damage was pretty bad, though.

I don't think it's good to excuse behavior that's destructive in any country - it gives sports a bad name everywhere.

You can celebrate and go crazy without shooting guns, driving recklessly, lighting public property on fire, hitting people, or throwing stuff that can injure or hurt someone.

according to RED, one is a possible homicide.

The rest were caused due to drunkeness and stupidity. I dont see how you can get run over by a taxi when the streets are crowded.

If we pull a Miracle in medellin next weds. I expect few of the same, mucho aguardiente.... and very little vandalism (as many latinamerican celebrations usually end up)

No looting like they do in USA for basketball or baseball (ala los angeles)

you have to be drunk to face a Knife!

There wasn't any looting in any of the Laker riots.

Just random vandelism. Trees set on fire, windows broken, cars walked on, police cruiser set on fire.

    Nothing looted.

Unless you count the parking cones that were tossed into bonfires to be melted.

Don't understand why people dying isn't more tragic and stupid than stuff being damaged.

That's not good either, but just to say - oh, someone is drunk, good riddance - like that means it's fine if they die.

    no, femfa

I am not going in that direction with this discussion, Is the artlicle on the dallas morning news today......... they could have focused in many thinghs related to the final game, and the 17 yrs without the glory of the championship, but they got some space to bash a celebration of futbol.

the point is that in the last few yrs many celebrations have generated both: vandalism and looting, and no country is safe from that!

few lines to recall the problems at Home, would have made clear that Monterrey's is not alone!

of course I feel for the life of these fans (if they were fans) and their families.

did you know that emergency rooms in latinamerica see more action during Mother's day than any other Holidays? Is part of that drinking, macho culture...... hight stakes on pride, low selfsteem to regard life as some other grps do! why? I bring that? some latinos will know..... I will explain, if needed.

any way you slice the pie.. its just down right stupidity. Nothing tragic about it.

If people cant hold thier alcohol, they shouldnt drink

    OR

just stay put in one place and celebrate there with your friends and family.

I dont understand how your team winning a championship and looting go together. Maybe its just me, but I've always preferred a post game blow job from my girl (or any random girl for that matter) :D

    eso esta mejor!

did you paid for that? Or just las chelas will do the trick?

I had friend in ecuador that did that with lorena Bobbit (sp?) and they are no longer celebrating together!
