I'm flying into LAX Saturday morning. I'm assuming that there'll be no shuttles or mass transit that are viable options, so I'll rent a car. Where are the parking lots? What are my driving options. Thanks
Go here. There is lots of info for you. http://www.homedepotcenter.com/home/default.sps We can't have you and your cameras getting lost!
It all depends on where your picking up your car (the car rentals are all over the place), but your best bet is to get on Century Blvd. and head east (away from LAX). Catch the 405 south to Vermont. At the Vermont exit make a left onto 190th, that will turn into Victoria St., then make a right onto Avalon and follow the crowd. I've never taken this route, but I'm getting this from mapquest.
i'm going to the June 28 game and staying at a hotel in Carson. i will have a rental car, but is that the easiest way to get there and back? any buses? taxi maybe?
There are buses and light rail in the area. There is info on where to get info at that site link above.
Go to www.homedepotcenter.com for plenty of info. Simple directions from LAX would be 405 south, exit Avalon Blvd, head left(inland) and the cathedral is on the right about 2 miles up.
Not quite - See Heretic's post above. There is NO exit from the 405 marked as "Avalon Boulevard." If you look for one of those you will end up in Orange County. Get off at the VERMONT exit and make the first left, on to 190th street. 190th changes its name to Avalon Boulevard.
Are you sure there's no Avalon Blvd sign at the exit by that mall where Ikea is? I was just down that way last week (took that exit in fact) and I'm pretty sure it said Avalon Blvd somewhere on the 405. Perhaps it's not on the exit itself but it might be on a sign further back. But if you're driving south on the 405 from LAX you can actually see the Toolbox roof from the freeway. It's a ways off but it's clearly visible off to the east. The exit that gets you to Avalon Blvd is soon after the roof comes into view. All that said, although Avalon Blvd will certainly get you there I suspect there are better ways to go. I've never tried it but the Vermont Ave suggestion above is probably one of them. But if you miss that exit - then Avalon Blvd.
Or even worse if you keep going you may see a sign that reads: ¡Beinvenido a Mexico! That is when you'll know you've gone a bit too far. On a more serious note; what time does your flight arrive? This will help us determine whether or not you will have a fighting chance on making it to the stadium on time. Once in the rental, tune into 1070 on the a.m. dial for traffic updates. Good luck!
No there is an exit on Avalon, this is the simplest way to get there. I used to have to take that exit everyday for work, trust me it's there.
Mapquest says it's about 12 minutes away. Yes I'm aware of "traffic", but I can't imagine a scenario that takes more than 2 1/2 hours to go 11 miles. I could walk it in that time.
Andy, I think he was pulling your leg. MapQuest to the contrary, it should be doable in 25 to 30 minutes easy despite freeway traffic. The only wild card is what kind of traffic there will be on surface streets right around the stadium itself. Since this is the first game, I expect that police may not have the traffic patterns scoped out and it will be a bit disorganized.
Andy, Yeah I was commenting on LA traffic. You'll be fine and in your seat well before kickoff. Just don't lollygag. Do you have bags to pick up at LAX, because that can take quite awhile often.
I've driven in LA traffic before. The bag thing is still a question. I haven't decided whether I'm bringing the big lens or not. I probably will, which does mean a checked bag... We'll see how it goes! thanks,
you will get off the plane at 11:00. at the earliest. it'll take you 5 minutes to walk to the baggage claim. another 10 minutes waiting for your bag. then you will wait 15 minutes for the car rental shuttle. you'll spend 5 minutes in lax traffic. 10 minutes driving to where you get your car. 5 minutes signing forms and getting keys. another 10 minutes getting to the freeway. who knows how long getting to the stadium. there you will encounter a bunch of people who have no idea where to go. they will be driving slowly, there will be traffic jams, you will be mis-directed to the wrong parking lot, etc. and then it will take 10 minutes to walk to the stadium from the parking lot. then you will wait in line to get into the stadium. see you in the second half.
I doubt they will let you bring the big lens into the stadium either. You should check the website about that.
With credentials for the event yes but if not the facility says lenses over 3 1/2 inches are not allowed. Here it is: STILL PHOTOGRAPHY Unless otherwise specified by the teams and/or event officials/management, guests may not bring professional photographic equipment in to the facility. Guests are also prohibited from engaging in commercial photography of any kind without the prior approval of The Home Depot Center management. The following is a partial list of the prohibited camera equipment: Flash photography Monopods or tripods Cameras with interchangeable lenses Cameras with lenses greater than 3 ½ inches in length Teams and/or event officials/management may have additional rules further restricting or prohibiting photography
Actually the scheduled arrival time is 10:16am. Which with the recent schedule padding means I'll be on the ground at 10:04, at the gate by 10:10, and at baggage claim by 10:30. I'll be pulling out of the Hertz lot (I bit the bullet, and used my #1 Gold Express) by 11:00am. I'll see you guys at the tailgate! I won't have any trouble getting the big lens in. http://www.ibiblio.org/footy/
