Stat of the day from the Arsecast, Erling Haaland has scored 13 of City's 20 goals so far in the Premier League.

City's 2nd leading scorer is Burnley's Maxime Estève with 2 own goals in City's 5-1 win.

    Scenes in Marseille

Atalanta had a goal ruled out for offside

Now there is maybe a handball by the Italians in their own box but no call, they go down and score a goal, no ref to the screen for the handball, goal stands!

De Zerbi got a yellow card for showing the ref a tablet with the replay playing on it.

This Brugge-Barca match is bonkers. 3x Brugge took the lead and 3x Barca leveled.

Szczesny saved from giving up a match-winning howler in stoppage time thanks to VAR. Utterly crap call. Of course an English ref (Anthony Taylor) overturns it...

also worth mentioning that I was big proponent of us signing Jorrel Hato from Ajax in the last window, and I was really bummed he ended up at Chelski.

Seeing how Mosquera and Hincapie have both bedded into the team so far, and after Hato's performance today, I'm no longer regretting that transfer.

Barca’s high line was comic relief.

If anything, Szczesny commits the foul…

I'm not sure what you're seeing.

I see the keeper's first touch is heavy. But the keeper recovers, gets to the ball in time and drags it back to himself. Meanwhile the attacking player at full speed attempts to win the ball that is no longer there, instead takes out the keeper, sliding thru his foot/leg, leveling him. It's a foul, not a goal and it couldn't be any more straight forward than that.

Yeah I’m with you, I don’t get the discourse about this at all. I get that Szczesny dangles his leg a little, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a foul.

Considering how aggressively he flew in, the Brugge player easily could’ve seen yellow for that on a different day.

I watched again to see if I’m wrong, but I’m more convinced now: The attacker contacts the ball with his leading foot and doesn’t make any contact with Szcz, Szcz initiated contact after the ball was nicked.

Even if the attacker does make contact on the ball, which I don't see but I'll grant for the argument, it's still a foul on the follow-through.

Where is Szczesny supposed to put his leg? Keep spinning it in the air like a ballerina?

He does the pullback of the ball with his left foot and decided to bring the same left foot forward again to be his pivot foot for the move - presumably so he could open up facing most of the field and pass with his right foot on next touch of the ball.

But that wasn’t his only option: he could have kept his right foot planted, kept his left foot closer to the ball, and turned to face his goal instead of the field. A variation of the same move

said differently: his left leg was already behind him from the pullback and he didn’t need to bring his left foot forward again to step away from the pressure. He could have planted his left foot behind him and turn in a different direction.

And again, all the contact was initiated by Szczesny. If it was Nwanieri who made the challenge and scored for us in that situation to beat Barca 4-3 at home (perish the thought this current squad gives up any/that many goals in a game ever again), would you feel the same way that it should be disallowed?

I don't agree with the bold, and yes, I'd think it should be disallowed.

I ********ing hate Barcelona, genuinely more than I dislike Spurs; there's no bias in their favor from me. It was just a foul.

They had a brief chat about it in the ref forum here and there's no additional discussion because it's just not controversial.

Just downloaded Football Manager for the first time. Always wanted to try the game, been watching YouTubers play it for years, but finally took the dip. 12 hours in and I have to say it's completely overwhelming. Like, I get lost in the minutiae to the point where I forget to do basic things before matches. The navigation is super clunky and non-intuitive and I'm really struggling to just grasp the basics. Gonna stick with it, but damn, it's tough for me to wrap my head around. I can easily see how people spend hours on it - it takes forever just to progress through things. Hell, it took me 45 minutes to change formations and set the bench . . . then I forgot to switch the "out of possession" formation and it all went to hell anyway.

I enjoy debate, and it seems clear that we are both firm in our opinions here. Thanks for the interactions. I’ll make this my last post on the topic unless you or others feel it has value.

the key issue seems to be whether Szczesny’s only option was to change his left leg’s direction mid-air and move forward rather than keeping it behind him in the direction it was going from the pullback. This is key because moving it forward is how and where the contact was initiated. For me it seems clear he had other options in the play, chose a worse one, and got bailed out.

I played FM07 thru FM12 then stopped for a few years before trying a newer version and had the same reaction, it was too overwhelming. I never really cared about the tactical side or managing players feeling, I just wanted to scout, sign and team build. So I went back and played FM12.

Feel like this is common across many video games. Developers add new features for the existing player base but it makes the barrier to entry for newbs really high.

Yeah - the last management simulation game I played was the old EA FIFA Manager series back in like 99 or 2000. That game was darn near perfect for the level of what I want to do. Just navigating FM26 to do the very basics is mind numbingly tedious and time consuming. I spend 60 bucks on it, so I'm gonna keep giving it a go - but so far so not good.

Well unfortunately for you guys you should have tried FM24 as FM26 is getting lambasted for having too many UI and graphical issues, as well as bugs and missing features.
Perhaps worst rated FM in the 2000s

Honestly I simply stopped with FIFA, period. The game management in general had become too stupid to deal with.

I had FM 2011 and it was glorious. Jamie Vardy on Fleetwood Town banging in goals, did it so long that I had a computer generated player who puts Haaland to shame, the guy scored 3 goals a game almost guaranteed, it was nuts. Tried one a few years later and thought it had gotten way to complex.

Given that FM25 was completely canceled I’m not surprised. Seems like a company rapidly tumbling downhill.

I retired from the game after winning the Champions League with FC Vaduz, which may have been harder than graduating law school.

Have to win the Europa League first since they can't directly qualify for the Champions League, right?

Athletic Bilbao is also a nice challenge but gets boring after a while.

I used to play Championship manager back in the day, but the last Football Manager I played was 2012 and I am terrified at getting back into it.
