Max starred for England U-19 against Spain. He absolutely savaged the spanish left back who could do nothing else but kick Max for 45 mins before finally getting a yellow. Max won a penalty against him and the spanish mgr took him off Max.
Easy now partner! You tryin to exemplify the glass-half-empty side of our little hole-in-the-wall? Ps. Seriously, my view has been formed by the many interviews I’ve heard him give, mostly at AFCB admittedly. And not focused or based on shady owners. Trust me I’m no fan of KSA or MBS. But he generally sounded like a good guy to me. Your mileage obviously varies.
I did. OMG we are awful. And speaking of past EPL coaches who I cared for, Poch was never one of them! He’s managed to lower my expectations for USMNT @WC’26 by 1-2 rungs of a ladder.
Thanks for that. One of Max‘s superpowers sure does seem to be earning fouls, especially PK’s. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little concerned about him being Able to absorb all of those kicks or assaults on his body, without injuries. I hope he doesn’t follow that Wilshire model of holding onto the ball too long.
Dowman has first team, top 6 team EPL skills if I risk over exaggerating. It's pretty much a given he's going to be too good for the U19s and I'll throw in the U21s as well. For me its the same as Nwaneri or MLS playing or the U21s, they'll both look good against pretty much anyone. My view of him is how he does against EPL sides and in Europe. The only thing that would surprise me in a U19 game is if he looked awful.
This is where football's yellow card system is so stupid compared to Rugby Guy commits multiple professional / cynical fouls before finally being given a yellow which in itself is cost free to give. in Rugby, after the second time he'd be warned for repeated infringement and then 3rd time in the bin - which would also apply to rotational efforts We want to see the skilled players play - not to see them get fouled
Took over league 2 relegation candidate Bournemouth 2008, got them promoted and 6th league 1 by 2011, was midtable at Burnley for a year and half in the Championship, He went to back to Bournemouth 2012 where they were 11th the season before in League one and got them to 2nd place. Promotionn to Championship and went from 10th to 1st in 2 years. First time in the PL for the club in 2015 and kept them in the PL till relegation in 2020 when no one expected them to stay up that long. Took over Newcastle durng the 2021 season, 11th to 4th in a season, 7th and 5th the seasons after. My supposition is that we would stay the same, maybe 3rd his first year if he took over. With our budget, he'd be fantastic.
The only thing I have noticed is the tackles are those last ditch defender ones where they throw a leg out, you can take those weekly for 20 years and have no ill effects because the contact is there but its not very forceful. The tackles Jack was copping that cooked his legs were much worse, usually front on tackles/contact after releasing the ball late, or getting scythed down from behind. Not to mention regularly just getting kicked by shit teams like the Stokes of the time.
Ornstein confirms, Ange will be leading Forest against Arsenal this weekend. 🚨 Ange Postecoglou to be confirmed as Nottingham Forest head coach imminently after Nuno Espirito Santo departure. 60yo Australian will lead #NFFC for Saturday’s trip to Arsenal - joined by a number of staff worked with at Tottenham Hotspur @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/zOaGI5pzkO— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) September 9, 2025
Normally new manager bounce is a concern, thankfully not the case with Ange. Going to be interesting how a team, built for being very stingy at the back does with a manager who is known for having a defense that leaks worse than the Old Trafford roof.
Marinakis (sp) is and has always been a moron, end of story. He could intimidate in Greece where the footballing officials are nothing more than mealy-mouthed morons, but he found out first-hand when he tried that with the PL that type of crap doesn't fly.
Eidur Gudjohnsen's middle son Andri just put Iceland up 1-0 in Paris! I also like how they bucked the trend of Icelandic naming conventions and kept Gudjohnsen has his last name and not Andri Eidurson.
It’s apparently not the first time - Eidur’s father is named Arnor (who was 17 when Eidur was born!) I wonder what drives that decision and how similar it is to like, an American woman choosing to change her surname when getting married.
I did not know that, interesting. I figured his kids kept the last name because their dad is a well known footballer. According to wikipedia, Eidur's Dad was also an Icelandic footballer, so maybe that is why he kept the name as well. Looks like all 4 Godjohnsens are strikers, maybe they should learn some other positions.
