2-0. Another corker. But VAR says offside interference. Fair I think. So back to 1-0. And Clive Tyldesley aptly points out that this is the only game in the entire championship season which is subject to VAR.
Rob Green swore that the VAR overrule was incorrect because the keeper reacted so late and was already beat. After 700+ matches of a career, dude didn't consider that the reason the keeper reacted so late was because he couldn't see the strike through the offside player? Good grief.
Uh-oh. Sunderland equalize. Nicely at that. I was hoping it would be settled in regulation, because there’s another little match to watch shortly.
Maybe he was actually their best player. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/45287905/napoli-scott-mctominay-serie-mvp-award
Holy shit! Sunderland look to be going up. 95' goal to seal their fate! Pounced on a sloppy pass by Moore? Inch perfect finish inside the post. I'm off to Lisbon. So to speak.
See, I don't like posts like this. Why pit it as a competition between the two teams? Seems like an unnecessary dig.
This is why I find it hard to root for the US Women now. This is how a huge portion of their fanbase (and a lot of players, really) acts about the men, and it’s like…we’re on the same team, be less shitty.
Sorry you didn't care for that comment. Perhaps you misinterpreted it a bit? It was meant as a a playful brag, kind of like a little sister might say to her big brother when she achieved something that he hadn't. As you know, in recent years I've fully adopted the women's team as one of my own. I.e. I watch virtually every game. And TBH, this season, I got as much, if not more, joy out of watching them as the men. But they get relatively little attention comparatively... in general and in particular on this forum. So when they do something like today, something which is truly remarkable, it makes me want to put an exclamation point on it. And especially because there's a very long history in our world of misogyny. Which is one of the reasons that I'm as passionate about the gals as I am. They always have to come from a position of "second fiddle" in the grand scheme of things, always having to prove their worth. And today they did that brilliantly. And I think there may be some lessons Mikel and the boys might learn from Renee and the gals. Anyway, I found today's performance and result so positive and moving, that I'm still basking in it. I had to leave soon after FT and just got home at 11pm, and I'm thinking of rewatching the end again now!
Its rough, I always thought which the promotion play offs it should be; 1+2 instant promotion 3 gets a week off, 4 v 5 play off. 3 v winner of 4/5 gets the last promotion spot. Thats fairer in my opinion as you give 3rd the chance for a rest and get players back, and 4 v 5 at the end of a long season have one more high intensity match. That aside, growing up I was always told bad kicking is bad football and SheffU had so many chances in the first 45 minutes to have the game put away, hell they should have been 2 or 3 clear within 25mins. Alternatively you could say playoffs are only to occur if there is less than a 10 point margin between 3rd and 4th and then have 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 under those conditions.
Yeah, I get it. Although I find it hard to root for them (at least pre-Hayes---she deserves more time to imprint her style) because their play was so dour. I have no doubt about your love and support for the women's team. And I have no doubt the above comments are earnest. But I maintain the comment to which I responded came off as an unnecessary dig, and I wasn't the only one who thought so, thus, I don't agree the problem was with the reader rather than the writer. And no, I'll leave it as well.
League One Playoff Final considerably delayed in the closing stages of the 2nd half because the ref's battery pack crapped out and they didn't have a backup on deck. Good grief.
