I don’t think FIFA is running the national teams for the national team coaches and executives. They are supposed to be running them for the fans, but we all know it’s all about the money, ergo UEFA’s second National Team Tournament. As things stand we are not seeing consistent top level football at either the club or international level because the players are being run into the ground.

So it's still the Inter-lull and I'm really really struggling for football content, as I usually do, so with that in mind, I've been contemplating how Ramsdale's transfer to Southampton combined with Everton's floundering at the bottom of the table (along with Southampton) could possibly make way for a change at the goalkeeper position for England.

If by some chance, Aaron starts making a difference in goal for the Saints, and Everton continues to concede goals, I'm curious what everyone else thinks as far as Southgate's ability to adapt to his player's performance vs. continuing to stand by his assessments from 8 years ago.

All true. But my point was that if you were an NT coach, might you rather get to work with the players several times, spread over the course of a year, rather than just once a year for a month or so in the summer?

Finishing league seasons earlier would free up a month or so before international tournaments start, which might actually give coaches some time to install a coherent tactical approach.

You know I didn't like Wenger's idea of the 2 year world cup- but I did like the concept he made of putting all qualifiers in one month and a half and releasing the players to the clubs for 7 months or over.

It helps those teams become cohesive units too.

Ake stretchered off with a left leg injury. Didn't look like there was any contact so I'm guessing he did in his hammy.

This tourney is doing guys in.

Most players with hamstring injuries can walk off, unless they have severely torn their hamstring. Didn’t see it, but the fact that he was stretchered off might suggest an ACL or severe ankle injury, neither off which requires contact.

The game is too fast and the pitches are too soft for all these matches

they have to find a way to reduce the fixtures

personally, I would get rid of the carling cup for premier league sides and reduce nations league games

it goes on far too long

Big clubs have more or less turned the Carling Cup into b-team matches, which I actually think is fine. It's the unnecessary travel and matches of internationals that's really bothering me.

Kinda watched USMNT 1-1 NZL late last night. Sure it was basically our B-team, but we were relatively poor against a minnow...

    * Many chances but couldn't put ball in net (Balogun included) until Pulisic came on as 2T sub
    * Naive defending
    * Let in a late equalizer

Also, Pochettino was finally, officially unveiled as new coach. But with the occasional day/weeks he'll get to work with them, is he really the guy to instill a new culture into this team (as Puli was pleading for during his post-match interview) and is he they guy to fix our forward line??

Time will tell. But I wouldn't bet the ranch.

p.s. Maybe some of Emma Hayes will rub off on him. :p

Take a clue from Germany and France and reduce the top flight to 18 teams, 34 league games. Eliminate the idiocy of the new European competition format and reduce the number of teams entered in the Champions League and Europa league. Unfortunately greed gets in the way of sensible fixture reductions.

Yeah. My first thought was achilles but he was holding the back of his leg as he was lying on the ground.
