Just watched a fairly wild match in El Salvador. It was far from pretty but it had a lot to offer… Waterlogged, muddy, cut-up pitch… right out of 1970s England. It only lacked sand in the goalmouth. USA were the better team especially in 2T, even down a man. But ES keeper made big save after save. Both teams ended with 10 men. The HR was pretty poor, including one blatantly obvious handball that should’ve given us a PK. Good fighting spirit from our boys to earn a 1-1 draw at 91’, in the last “meaningful“ match before Qatar. And no injuries… Phew! Oh and apparently no bags of urine thrown on us.
Ramsdale was a bit poor for the first goal, got an arm to it. That said the defence gave the Hungarian player years to tee up the shot. Second goal Ramsdale should have done better but once again, the defence gave the Hungarian mid time to set up the through ball and the striker time and space to place a shot with power. Third goal absolutely nothing Ramsdale could do. Poor England clearance, Hungarian player tees up one of the mids who hits it flush and rockets it. Looks to take a tiny deflection on the way through. Fourth goal Ramsdale comes really far off his line because a 10 men England defence lets one of the Hungarian players get goal side. Keeper gets chipped. Ramsdale in the 1st half of the season probably saves the first 2 goals. Zero chance he saves the second two goals. But realistically, on the 4th goal he probably was boned either way. Stay on your line, and the ST gets a big target to aim for. Charge out and get chipped but maybe put the ST off enough to put it over or wide.
And fairly or unfairly, Scott has been catching a lot of flak for this Tweet, as he concedes it's a bit of a stat he's made up.
Your summary led me to wanna watch the goal highlights. Yes it wasn't a good look for Ramsdale on at least half of the 4 goals. And on the first 2 goals, Kalvin Phillips made defensive errors which directly contributed.
The thing is, I think its only the first goal where if it was an Arsenal game I would be saying "Ramsdale needed to do better" however the defense was just so poor for all 4 goals, Ramsdale getting anything to it was better than nothing.
Woo-hoo, my town made the cut! My mate said he was disappointed Edmonton wasn't in the list, I have been twice and don't get the appeal
I don't envy anyone who is playing daytime at BMO in the dead of summer. I actually wonder if they will have to convert it to grass for the WC. The cities list is cool, I can realistically drive to basically 2/5ths of that from Toronto.
President Ron DeSantis will cancel the World Cup for being too gay. But the good news is that we get to see a Monster Truck run over Harry Kane
On the bright side, having all the s***hole countries slapped with entry restrictions will improve the odds of the US winning a knock-out match or two. Sent from my moto g power (2021) using BigSoccer mobile app
Carlos Tevez is headed straight into the managerial ranks...sort of. 📝😄 ¡Carlos Tévez es el DT de #RosarioCentral!El Apache se convirtió en el nuevo entrenador auriazul, tras firmar contrato con el Club por 12 meses. Carlos "el Chapa" Retegui, será integrante de su cuerpo técnico.#VamosCanalla 💪🏼🇺🇦 pic.twitter.com/5APtaJjtiX— Rosario Central (@RosarioCentral) June 21, 2022 Tevez doesn't have his coaching badges, so the official manager will be Carlos Retegui, whose most recent gig was head coach of the Argentina women's...field hockey team. He has guided Argentina to 3 Olympic medals as a field hockey coach (2 men, 1 women), but he has exactly zero experience in professional soccer. Tevez would ordinarily be prohibited from even entering the technical area because of his lack of badges. Rosario have found a loophole though! He'll be allowed in if he registers as, swear to god, the waterboy. I truly cannot wait to see how this goes.
This kind of nonsense has been happening in rugby You have managerial stuff designated as water boy or medics so they can come on the field or be direct in the touchline right beside the action It's become farcical
Serious question though: in the U.S. if you played in what FIFA would consider a first division professional league, you can waive in at a higher licensing level, C or B, depending on how long you played. In other words, you don't have to start at the very bottom rung to begin working on your coaching licenses. Does Argentina have a similar policy?
The whole coaching license thing seems a bit silly from an American perspective. I get it at youth level, but let professional clubs hire whoever they want to be manager, they are big boys and it's okay to let them make mistakes.
Any jobs on in Europe? I have a Master's degree in History with a specialization in modern Europe & Geography. The wife has a Master's in Educational Administration and BA in Psychology. Just checking.
