Yeah Jesse! Maybe just maybe he can break the cycle of failed American coaches in the EPL? Not counting on it. But hopefully their hierarchy will do the right thing and give him another go next season.
Happy for Leeds, they just managed to escape by the skin of their teeth. Now, they've got to find a way to reinforce for next season.
As there has been with every pitch invasion in the last week, news trickles out about some stupid thuggery. Today supposedly the Villa goalie was attacked, at least that's what his coach just said.
I’m as glad to see the back of Burnley as anyone, but I don’t get the Leeds love. They’re dirty AF, and even more so since Marsch arrived.
It's actually 5 seasons he had done 40-50 appearances He's been pretty integral across all 3 midfield positions and false 9 Probably only fabregas has been that versatile recently?
Gundo is a great player. I don’t know how he’s underrated, though. Everybody in the world acknowledges his greatness. Reminds me a little bit of the hype that surrounded Iniesta for years. If everyone is telling me how underrated he is, it sounds like everyone knows he’s great. Cesc may have actually been underrated, given how multiple fanbases turned on him.
Break what cycle? Bradley had like 2 months and Wagner kept an in-over-their-heads Huddersfield in the league for two seasons. Whatever happened after that, keeping them up at all was a ********ing miracle.
You're right. 1) "Failed" is perhaps a bit harsh, and 2) the sample size is tiny. So to generalize is to fall victim to the meme that some British journos peddle about American coaches. No offense to Wagner but he probably doesn't even quite qualify in this category in that he was raised in Germany, played in Germany, coached largely in Germany. Happens to have an American dad and played a few years for USMNT. But he's not a US raised coach like Bradley or Arena. And when I wrote my previous post, I thought there was a 3rd American coach who tried their hand in the EPL. But that's not right. (unless you consider Chris Armas as assistant coach... also not exactly lighting things up, but TBF he's in a poorly managed project) Marsch is that 3rd coach (or really the 2nd in my mind), and he's had not quite 3 months at Leeds. But big credit to him, he took a VERY tough assignment and managed to succeed... just... by the seat of his pants. Bradley, even though he also had not quite 3 months at Swansea, and they pulled the plug on him a bit suddenly it seemed, has to be considered a failure in the EPL. Not only his poor results but his inability to sell people on his worthiness. Marsch has done better on both of those fronts. That said, I wouldn't bet a lot of money on Jesse lasting long at Leeds. I hope they give him a summer window and the chance to prove himself for at least 4-5 mos. But it's the EPL so he could be gone at any minute.
I think Cesc suffered a bit from the teenage talent thing. He didn't age gracefully like many midfielders do
this might be just me but i hated how much of a 10 he became. i sort of feel like if he'd stay more central midfield, he might have aged better? the other thing, i think, is he ended up at teams that didn't seem to know what to do with him other than to have him.
I didn't realize Balotelli still played, but Twitter has been constantly showing me this incredible goal since yesterday. Enough stepovers to even make CR7 jealous. the finish is filthy too. Mario Balotelli did this today 😳(via @beINSPORTS_TR)pic.twitter.com/9yYIhB3JqD— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) May 22, 2022
Cantona in his early years showing how to tackle... pic.twitter.com/S9GoFI7x7i— Dirty Footballer 👊 (@DirtyFootbaIIer) April 13, 2018 Now we know where Paul Scholes learned how to tackle. The same technique Cantona used on the fan in the stands.
This reminds me of another thing somewhat like this in the last year or two where some company sent out an erroneous message to a load of people in the US only to quickly try to undo it with "oops, sorry that was a mistake... someone was just 'practicing'". In that case it was a little more serious than a sports ticker... it was something like an E911 alert or severe weather alert (or maybe even a nuclear accident??)... can't recall exactly. In both cases, you gotta figure, the person with the "loose fingers" probably was let go rather quickly.
It's been several years ago now, but didn't Hawaii get a public alert that missiles were incoming? Yeah, here it is... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Hawaii_false_missile_alert 38 minutes! Sheesh.
honestly, it felt like a "he was ours, he has barca DNA, he is now successful, we want him back" more than a logical transfer.
Pep seemed to have the idea that with Messi as a prolific false 9, they could have one more hybrid midfielder - and Fabregas at the time was the most dangerous EPL player in the D in terms of assisting. But it's seems to have worked better with the likes of Gundo and Foden - Gundo is much more a goal scored than Cesc was but can also play all 3 midfield positions
So, Forest vs Huddersfield this weekend for the biggest payout in footie. Who do you want to win, and who do you think will win? (Forest; Forest) Also, I think Liverpool is playing some Spanish club today, so maybe that will be something interesting until the MLS slate kicks in.
