I think it's pathetic and sad. No. He's arguing that Europeans aren't adequately suspicious of and hostile to its growing Muslim population. I would argue that European nations have done a piss-poor job of assimilating Muslims and redefining nationality and citizenship to include their sizable immigrant populations. Burning to death is an awful, agonizing death and I'm sorry this guy put himself through it. But, at the risk of sounding callous, he only added to the problem.
Of course, if he was a Muslim cleric protesting US involvment in Iraq or the existence of Israel or Guantanamo Bay he would be a great hero and champion of oppressed peoples and people would be comparing him to Thich Quan Duc.
One immolation is FOR a group of people, the other AGAINST a group of people. These are the basics of cognition. Learn them before going outside.
