Credit where credit is due: despite my burning hatred for all things Red Bull (I get them again in MLS this afternoon, too!) that was one heck of a goal by Xavi. World class.
That's something to salvage, anyway. And we still have the cup to get into Europe ourselves. Knocking them out would be sweet.
Hahaha!! Now that was a fun match to watch. Goals and Red Bull getting kicked out of Europe in their home stadium. I also note that two former Feyenoord players were on the pitch, Hendriks for VfB and Geertruida for RB.
And that's it! Well, I must say, considering I get Red Bull again in the Hudson River Derby later today, that's a great start.
It really was fun watching. When we're healthy and in form, we can compete with anyone. Tough campaign, but we showed a lot of character, and I'm feeling good about next season. We'll only get better.
Vancouver, believe it or not. Cincinnati are leading in the East, but they're just +3 in GD. A couple other teams are really good. Inter Miami, of course, a few others. Last year's champs, the LA Galaxy, are winless this year. It's a wild league. Here are the current standings (the table is W-L-D, which is stupid, but whatever): https://www.mlssoccer.com/standings/#season=MLS-SEA-0001K9&live=true
Yeah, I don't like the stubbornness of US sports wanting to show it as W-L-D; it should follow the points, 3-1-0. I was reading somewhere else that the three Canadian clubs weren't doing too well attendance-wise. And it has been suggested that they be dropped so three new US cities could get MLS franchises. Canada does have their own domestic league to which Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal could join.
Vancouver is doing great. Montréal is struggling because they're just not very good. Toronto usually does well. So, I'm not sure where that report comes from. MLS is highly unlikely to make any changes, anyway. It's a single-entity league. The clubs are actually franchises. The players are paid by the league, not the teams. The franchises are responsible for the extra Designated Player salaries (with league approval) and their stadiums, a couple other things, but mostly MLS runs everything.
Too bad Hendriks couldn't help out Nübel after that great save, but the offense shows up to save the day. So much room in the box for Demirovic. He must have loved shooting from there! A great day out, and hopefully a confidence builder for next Saturday.
