78' Justin Diehl scores his first 1.B goal from a fine through ball from Rieder, 2-0. Both just came on as subs.
We could have scored another at the death, but Justin got just a wee bit greedy there. Excellent performance today. My day is off to a crackling start. Bouncing to the Arsenal forum for the rest of that match, but I'll be back later.
I didn't see this posted anywhere, but the hits keep coming! https://www.vfb.de/de/vfb/aktuell/neues/profis/2425/verletzung-el-bilal/ Translated:
Yikes. I hadn't caught that either. I've been pretty busy and I'm behind on the news. Tough loss for us. By no means do I think Demirovic is inadequate, but El Bilal Touré brings that extra dimension of pace (and I freely admit to being a pace addict: speed changes everything). It's not as severe an injury as Malachi Jones suffered for New York City, though. And by all appearances, Malachi is doing fine. Young guys heal well. El Bilal will be back to full strength before we know it. In the meantime, God bless and get well soon. I'm sure he's super frustrated to get hurt just as he was emerging.
Red Star at 12:45 p.m. ET today on Paramount+ in the Champions League. I'm pushing to get done with work in time. I hope I make it! In the meantime, a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Gobble, gobble.
Here's a trivia question: Two VfB players have scored in this match, and yet the score is 1-1, how can that be? On-loan Silas nicked the ball from Stiller and slots past Nubel at minute 12. Now you know.
Well, this was prophetic. I couldn't finish the memo I was working on in time to make the match, but I had a tab open with Fotmob to check in. Painful.
Away match against Werder Bremen about to start. Nubel Stergiou, Chase, Chabot, Mittelstadt Karazor, Stiller Vagnoman, Rider, Fuhrich Demirovic
29' Werder player dives in the box, PK. Ref checks video and agrees that it was a dive. No PK. The Werder player should have been booked for diving.
We may have gotten just a wee bit lucky there. Soft pen, but Chabot did rake his shin with his studs a little. Right call, though. Is it me, or has Chabot been struggling?
Yeah, last season the Anton and Ito CB pairing kept a tighter control in the box. This Chabot-Chase or Chabot-Raoult set of pairings isn't working out as well.
Chabot, Chase, Raoult, whomever is in there struggle. I was watching the feet. The left foot of the VfB defender and right foot of Werder diver were side by side but there was a gap between. The diver clearly pulled his legs up to make it look like a penalty. That was a clear dive IMHO. I didn't see any shin action.
I'll have to look at it again, but it looked to me like Chabot clipped his shin, but it was very light. It definitely was pretty divey. Dude looked like Chabot had shot him in the foot.
Well, at least we didn't let this one slip away early. We worked our way right back into it after the early concession and were the better side overall. But we really need to get sorted in the back.
