32' Leweling tackled in box, PK. Millot's first PK shot was weak and saved, but rebounded back to him to slot in, 1-1. I don't think he should be the PK taker.
63' Karazor sent off on a red card after receiving his second yellow. VAR should have checked it, but they didn't. On the slo-mo replay, you can clearly see the Wolfsburg player stepping on Karazor's ankle. But, of course, the Wolfsburg player then dropped to the pitch, feigning injury.
68' Wolfsburg score, 2-1. This is over. Wolfsburg player fouls Undav in stealing the ball and then goes down to score. No call. Nice to have the ref on your side.
Sebastian is furious, and rightly so. We were dominating up to that point. A quick VAR review would have shown the scam, but they can't review a yellow. Maybe the ref realized he got smoked. He just dished a straight red to Amoure.
Well, so much for that. But it's the right call. Studs up, that's a red, but he kept his feet down. Now I really want to beat the pork salad out of these sheep.
DENIZ. UNDAV. That is all. We were better than these guys even down a man. And they were getting cocky and chippy about it when they were up 2-1. We're going to remember that when they come to our house on 15 February.
Yeah, the ref REALLY screwed up the call against Karazor. He was fouled by the Wolfsburg player, being in between the ball and the opponent, with the opponent stepping on his ankle.
Horrible call. Jablonski is a good ref, too. He just got deceived. He's not going to forget that, either.
I understand that VAR doesn't want to review all yellow cards, but you would think that they would review any yellow card that results in a sending off. I saw a match this week in which a straight red was given, and then after a VAR check, it was overturned into a yellow only. Thus, both cases came from a sending off.
Agreed, but that's the rule. I think it should be modified myself to allow review of a second yellow. It's one thing to have a caution, quite another to alter the trajectory of a match. No doubt in my mind Jablonski would have reversed himself had he gotten the opportunity to see it. But he'll see it on replay, and he's going to be pissed about getting tricked like that.
Perhaps VfB will protest and have the Red Card/second Yellow overturned so Karazor can play in the next match?
Ask and ye shall receive: https://www.vfb.de/en/vfb/latest/ne...uch-gegen-gelb-rote-karte-an-atakan-karazor-/ I'm sure the appeal will be successful, too. Jablonski admitted to his mistake (full credit for that; he's a good referee). It doesn't help with the result here, but at least we'll have Atakan for TSG.
Karazor ban lifted: VfB Stuttgart | Lifting of yellow-red ban Atakan Karazor Good on Sven Jablonski for doing the right thing right away. Immediately after the match, he said he had made a mistake. That made it easy. And now we have our captain for TSG. We take on Sparta Prague at 12:45 p.m. EDT on Paramount+ today, Tuesday 10.1. Intriguing match. Should make for an intriguing afternoon.
Great news about Karazor's wrongful dismissal. I will be watching the CL match live, but probably discussing it under the CL thread.
I moved this post over from the CL thread since it was about today's 1.B match with Hoffenheim. Yeah, I hear you. I got very busy today also; what with following several footie clubs and doing garden harvest and cleanup, I can't get all matches into my watching schedule. It looks like we scored the tying goal in minute 90+9' to salvage a home point, 1-1. Since this week is international week, I will have some time to watch the highlights. Good luck on the chemo treatment!!
Thank you! I'm a battler. It's quite a story. Sorry, didn't notice I was in the wrong thread. I've been scrambling today. Finally settling in. I think it was a Demirovic PK to level it. I'll catch up to the highlights later.
No big deal, just coming off the break to play Bayern. I like our XI today, though. Let's go get 'em. Furchtlos und Treu!
Rough one today. If you've missed it, you may not want to watch the replay. The highlights will do. Or the lowlights, I should say. Ouch.
Yeah, I had other matches to watch at the same time so I won't go scheduling a viewing of this butt-kicking.
The first half was alright, if a little frustrating. I thought in the second half we'd get to 60' level (we very nearly went up 1-0 early in the second half) and then bring on El Bilal Touré and Mittelstädt, maybe Anrie Chase too, and try and jump them. But we never got to that point. I give our boys credit, though: they fought hard even after going down by a couple goals. But by the end, the energy just wasn't there. Bayern wore us down.
I had chores to do, and appointments to keep so I haven't watched it yet, but I followed the score via ESPNFC's match tracker. It's looking like I won't watch it now, either.
It wasn't great, but by no means did we look disastrous. We were still competing after Kane's second tally. It just really got away after the third goal, which may very well have been offside. Certainly the Gegenpressing newsletter guys thought so. We definitely lost all our energy after going down 3-0, though. We didn't quit. We just couldn't keep up. Got beat to every ball, lost every challenge, that kind of thing. There are going to be matches like this, I guess. Especially through the first third of the season. At least we know where we need to put in some work now. We came out in a 4-4-2 with Deniz and Demirovic up top, but we just couldn't work the ball through to them. So, back to the drawing board on that one.
