Now, if they can only keep this up! That cross in, from the left, from Ito was every bit as good as a cross from Sosa, so I hope he can keep it up, too!
Week 4: 3-0-1 9 points VfB went to Mainz and came away with a rare away win, 1-3. Guirassy with a hattrick of goals, assisted by Anton, Mittelstadt, and Undav. Bayern Munich is now probably plotting a winter time move for him. Goals - Assists Guirassy 8 - 0 Führich 2 - 2 Silas 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 2 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Millot 1 - 0 Zagadou 1 - 0 Jeong 0 - 1 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Undav 0 - 1 Goals scored: 14 Goals conceded: 6 Clean sheets: 1
Week 4: 4-0-1 12 points In a Friday match, VfB beat Darmstadt 3-1 in Stuttgart to go top of the table for the second time this short season. Guirassy with a brace of goals, which puts him at 10 goals from the first 5 matches, a feat only accomplished one other time in Bundesliga history, by Robert Lewandoski. Führich and Stenzel assisted on those two goals. Millot scored the first goal on an assist from Guirassy. Darmstadt goal was put in by VfB's Zagadou. Goals - Assists Guirassy 10 - 1 Führich 2 - 3 Silas 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 3 Millot 2 - 0 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Jeong 0 - 1 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Undav 0 - 1 Goals scored: 17 Goals conceded: 7 Clean sheets: 1
Week 6: 5-0-1 15 points VfB went to FC Köln and took all 3 points in a 0-2 win. Denis Undav was subbed on for Karazor and ended up scoring a brace. Assisted on the first goal by Führich, Undav put in rebound from a Silas shot that hit the post and came back out for the second. Clean sheet for Nübel. With Bayern Münich drawing, Stuttgart move into sole possession of second place, one point behind Bayer Leverkusen. Goals - Assists Guirassy 10 - 1 Führich 2 - 4 Silas 2 - 1 Undav 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 3 Millot 2 - 0 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Jeong 0 - 1 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Goals scored: 19 Goals conceded: 7 Clean sheets: 2
Wolfsburg will be a good test. Our last test was Leipzig away. If they can keep this going to the Dortmund match in November, that would be amazing.
It was amazing, THEY are amazing! Another Guirassy hat-trick for the 3-1 win against Wolfsburg! It's been a long time since I can remember this good a start to a season. VfB had better be able to keep Guirassy until the end of the season, and not give him up in January!
Week 7: 6-0-1 18 points At home VfB went down 0-1 to Wolfsburg at halftime. But a 15-minute second half hattrick by Guirassy captured the full three points. Now after 7 matches, he holds the Bundesliga record with 13 goals, something not even Lewandoski accomplished. First goal was a PK, Führich assist on second, and Silas on third goal. VfB go back to the top of the table. Goals - Assists Guirassy 13 - 1 Führich 2 - 5 Silas 2 - 2 Undav 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 3 Millot 2 - 0 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Jeong 0 - 1 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Goals scored: 22 Goals conceded: 8 Clean sheets: 2
I just read that he has a release clause that activates in the summer. They are expected to take offers in the winter to avoid losing him for peanuts at the end of the season. I am preparing for this eventuality. Let's hope they can build a team with the income.
Week 8: 7-0-1 21 points VfB went to Berlin and came away with a 0-3 win for the full three points. Guirassy scored his 14th goal off a cross from Rouault. In the second half, the points were secured from a Silas goal (Millot assist) and Undav header (Jeong cross). And Nübel picked up a clean sheet with a few key saves. With this win, they are at least half-way to safety from relegation. Goals - Assists Guirassy 14 - 1 Führich 2 - 5 Silas 3 - 2 Undav 3 - 1 Millot 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 3 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Jeong 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Rouault 0 - 1 Goals scored: 25 Goals conceded: 8 Clean sheets: 3
I hope the Guirassy sub was only precautionary. Both the Silas & Undav goals were excellent, so hopefully they can keep up the good work if he's out for a while.
Week 9: 7-0-2 21 points It was too good to last. Guirassy out injured so VfB went down in defeat 2-3 at home to Hoffenheim. I tried to watch it live, but when VAR gave a soft PK to Hoffenheim, I switched to ice hockey. Führich goal, assisted by Undav, and then Undav scored unassisted. Goals - Assists Guirassy 14 - 1 Führich 3 - 5 Undav 4 - 2 Silas 3 - 2 Millot 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 3 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Jeong 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Rouault 0 - 1 Goals scored: 27 Goals conceded: 11 Clean sheets: 3
I saw online that an Undav PK was saved in the 30th minute. Did you see that? Was it a good PK that was well saved, or was it a 'meh' PK that was easily saved? We just got back from a two-week RV trip and have been doing maintenance & cleaning-out most of the day. I guess I'll be back in the swing of things now. I hope VfB will be, too, at least until Guirassy comes back.
Week 10: 7-0-3 21 points Lost 2-0 away to Heidenheim. The magic is gone. Goals scored: 27 Goals conceded: 13 Clean sheets: 3
Week 11: 8-0-3 24 points Guirassy started on the bench and thus, VfB missed yet another PK, Führich this time. After Dortmund took the lead against the run of play, Lewelling slid an exquisite pass into the path of Undav whose shot tied it up 1-1. In the second half, Guirassy made his return to play and put away a PK that was earned when Silas was tripped up by Kobel. He showed his teammates how to take a PK successfully, which stopped the PK rot (3 misses in Guirassy's absence) and win the match and all three points. Goals - Assists Guirassy 15 - 1 Führich 3 - 5 Undav 5 - 2 Silas 3 - 2 Millot 2 - 1 Stenzel 0 - 3 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Jeong 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Mittelstädt 0 - 1 Rouault 0 - 1 Lewelling 0 - 1 Goals scored: 29 Goals conceded: 14 Clean sheets: 3
I wasn't counting on VfB to come away with a win vs. Borussia Dortmund, but they did it anyway! 2-1 at home with goals for Undav, and Guirassy! Undav leveled the score at 1-1 with a beautiful assist from Leweling in the 42nd minute. Guirassy, back from injury in the 67th minute, scored a PK in the 83rd minute! Now, if they can be consistent and play well, not playing down to the level of inferior opponents, they'll stay up with no threat of relegation.** **They also need to keep Guirassy until the end of the season.
what an incredible start to the season. Guirassy of course the standout but the entire team is really clicking, this performance against Dortmund was truly an elite team performance. Stiller is probably my favorite addition and under-the-radar player, his passing skills are elite and consistent. almost whoever plays fullback/wing back: Ito, Mittelstadt, Roualt, all are playing extremely well this year. Führich of course is looking great, really the whole team is clicking maybe outside of Silas and Jeung. CL is a very real goal right now with Dortmund struggling, Leipzig lacking a strong attack, neither of those are terrifying and the rest of the BL not impressive (outside of Bayern and Leverkusen). 3rd place is clearly deserved
Welcome to the thread, @Dward1! The more the merrier! I agree that the team is playing well, but Silas needs to climb up out of his funk. If he steps it up, VfB will be hard to beat.
I thought that VfB might lose this game to Frankfurt because Franfurt always seemed to have our number in the past. VfB won this round away, 2-1, having scored all three goals! 0-1 Deniz Undav in the 1st minute 1-1 Waldemar Anton (OG) in the 26th minute 1-2 Deniz Undav in the 45th+1 minute Stuttgart are third in the table 5 points back of Scheiss Bayern, and 3 points ahead of BVB Dortmund. Man, I hope they can keep this up!
Week 12: 9-0-3 27 points VfB pull off another away win, 1-2 over Eintracht in Frankfurt. Undav with a brace of goals, assisted by Millot and Mittelstadt. Although the gap with the top two is starting to spread, VfB are hanging tough in 3rd spot of the table. Goals - Assists Guirassy 15 - 1 Undav 7 - 2 Führich 3 - 5 Silas 3 - 2 Millot 2 - 2 Stenzel 0 - 3 Ito 0 - 2 Karazor 0 - 2 Jeong 0 - 2 Mittelstädt 0 - 2 Zagadou 1 - 0 Stiller 0 - 1 Anton 0 - 1 Rouault 0 - 1 Lewelling 0 - 1 Goals scored: 31 Goals conceded: 15 Clean sheets: 3
When Guirassy leaves next summer (and he will, Bayern will probably buy him), this Deniz Undav is already in place to take his starting position.
