Re: Very Small Rocks Preseason Transfer Thread

FYI, I've added some sheets to your G-doc to sync the format to what we are doing in Small (and what we did last year). Adjust and tinker as you desire, and please share any changes that work to make it better.

    1. I created a new sheet for the rosters to be updated. It's not necessary, but it's kind of fun to have the record of how things looked at after the draft, so the drafted teams are now frozen for posterity. You can come back in a few weeks (perhaps days) and count on your fingers how few of your original picks are left. But I digress. Point is to update in the "updated rosters" sheet from this point onward, not the original draft sheet.

Also, to make things visually easier, we did a couple of additional things last year. First, we would use the color boxes to show new additions to our rosters to make them stand out. Just clear the colors in a week or so when you update it the next time. No strict rule, but I'd usually keep a new player in color code for a week or so.

Second, we would update the date at the bottom of each team when updates and/or roster confirmations are made. Click on the date and a calendar pops up and then just click on the current date. If all of the dates are more or less current, it's a good sign that all is good. If you double-check a roster, update the date.

    2. I also added a sheet for trades during the season. Pretty easy to fill in using the copy and paste values technique, and another convenient way to see the trades rather than paging back through several weeks on the FPL forum. Not necessary, but much easier to have the history right there. When the list of trades got too long, we made a new one, and I think ended up with 4 for the whole season - GW1-8, 9-19, 20-29, 30-38, or something like that.

Yes, I know, I know. :note dripping sarcasm: Typing a player's name, team, and salary and then copying it once is really, really, really onerous and takes far too much effort for some. :D And, clicking a color box and a calendar clearly sends it over the edge in terms of burden. ;)

But take a look and see what you think.

(FYI, In that bright fuchsia colored box, we made a note of the gameweek when anyone played their wildcard, i.e., WC-2, but really bells and whistles....)

I guess Small Rocks had that Google Docs all last year. It is phenomenal.
I like the weekly scores and averages. Epikoinis has that in the MLS League.

I think last year there was a column for the week of the transfer. But the overall EPL List is perfect. Will it get updated?

    Tremendous work.

Guess I should have been paying attention, didn't even know we had the open draft now.

Ah, someone grabbed Cole after the Robitnicki (erm!?) performance. I was wondering about how I could work that without dismantling the side......I think this'll be a nice pick-up if things continue. Hodgson did wonders for Duff and Zamora, so it should continue with Cole, I think.

Have to update my own roster tracking now!...

    Thanks Tarv.

Someone will need to copy and paste the league standings into that sheet if you like it (but then the formula for the averages will calculate automatically). It doesn't need to be done every week (or at all), but kind of nice and fun to have it for historical purposes. FCSpringfield certainly enjoyed watching his lead increase each week last year in Small!

Unfortunately, an updated FPL player list showing league selections AND availability is still the missing link in the puzzle. What we did with the player list works well for the draft, but it only works because the player list frozen. New players have already been added (and deleted) and there isn't an easy or practical way that I've come up with to import the new list AND to keep the existing information about team ownership and availability. As a result, at least last year in Small Rocks, we limited ongoing updating during the season to the "Updated Rosters" and the "Trades" sheets, which with good spelling (focus on that this season Tarv!) allows for a pretty easy check using the ctrl+F search function.

Evra doesn't look like a starter... until 'into the season'.

    Evra is Left Back.

Rafael is Right Back. Fabio is the Left Back twin.

O'Shea and Brown will platoon with Rafael getting "prime" starting opps' (ie, the games Sir Alex thinks they can risk it). Though come next year Rafael is the guy. Don't forget Sir Neville needs games too.

I know that, but for fantasy purposes I've been considering Rafael for Evra all week; but decided to wait until after international matches, to see who else might need transfering in or out.

Exactly...O'Shea and Brown. Me thinks Rafael will have a stranglehold on the spot by November. I very nearly drafted him but couldn't pull the trigger.

If we really want to be picky, that's an illegal transfer as you don't have the donkey.

I'm taking you mean Carew out?

    ^Same.

He is a future FPL stud, but just not sure how much time he'll get this season.

I'm the Transfer King...I can do anything!

My 6th and 7th round picks are now GONE! (Bosingwa and Carew) In all honesty though my team is better now than it was at the start of the week. Plus I got money in the bank to play with when I inevitably use my Wildcard in the 5th week.
