There is a very bad fire caused by a pedophile right now in Northern California that has @Beerking and I in harms way. We were just put on red flag warning and pre-cautionary evacuation orders here in Shasta County. Butte and Tehama County are f*cked right now.
Kaitlyn, I only noticed this fire at the BayFC game last night. I have the Watch Duty app on my phone, and it notified me about a small fire nearby. Then I checked what was happening in NorCal and I saw that massive fire near Redding. I immediately thought of you… If you haven’t evacuated yet, i hope you have your go bags ready for you and your family. If you are in a hilly area with narrow roads, don’t wait for an evacuation order and leave on the evacuation warning. Also install the free Watch Duty app to be notified of the fire’s progress.
Ive installed the app! Thank you. No evac orders yet, but we could get them. Ill head back to Brentwood if I have to. But Concords on fire too i think. So idk.
It was started about 3 miles from my house by a felon with two prior convictions, one for child molestation and the other for assault with a deadly weapon. He pushed a burning car down a hill into a wooded area near Alligator Hole in upper Bidwell Park, probably to get rid of evidence of another crime. Life in prison without the possibility for parole would be a lenient sentence for that piece of shit.
We had a close call in our neighborhood last week. Some idiot(s) launched fireworks into my neighbor's cow pasture about 10:30 at night and set it alight. Fortunately the cows had eaten that part down pretty good, and there was like 0 mph wind, so the fire was very slow in spreading. I have the Pulse Point app that shows SJFD dispatches, and get notifications specifically for vegetation fires. Somehow I missed this one so didn't know about it until a neighbor posted it to our neighborhood WhatsApp group. I went outside and could see a glow down the road so I grabbed the biggest fire extinguisher I had and raced down there on my mini bike. Fortunately 3 fire trucks were already there and pretty much had it all out. One of the fireman walked up to me and I asked, "so, you don't need my fire extinguisher". That gave him a good laugh. I know it sounds kind of funny, but, all fires start small and so if you get to them in time..... I actually put one out at another neighbor's who accidentally set fire to some juniper. I saw the smoke and was able to get there in time before it spread onto the hillside and the tall grass.
I have similar dumb instincts. I’ve been around shootings several times in my life, and for some dumb reason always go towards the sound of gunshots. Almost made Mrs bsman a widow when I worked for the DoD at ESL in ‘88…
I invested in a fire blanket for the house. I need to hang it up somewhere where everyone knows where it is. We have a gas stove, and sometimes people in the house (not me!) forget about stuff and it gets dicey.
Yeah, I'd like to swtich, but have to convince everyone in the household :-(. I'd like to have an all-electric house, powered by solar as much as possible.
Pros of induction cooktops: 1. Better performance for cooking most types of food 2. Way easier to clean 3. No fires / inhaling gas fumes 4. Don't get sweaty in the kitchen while cooking Pretty happy with my heat pump water heater too (which was free after rebates).
Our building is 100% electric save for the heater in the garage downstairs. It makes insurance a lot cheaper...
