I'm not saying I agree with it...just that it is a rule and therefore, it needs to be followed.

    I like your line up!
If Vizuete wants to be a bit more careful, he can also try this midfield

    -------------------Cortez (explenation below)------
    -----------Mendez---- ---Urrutia-------------------
    Guerron----------------------------------Ayovi/Bolan~os

Cortez there because he is VERY physical and it is the player with the closest characteristics to Castillo we have in the roster.
With Mendez and Urrutia playing a bit more relax because of Cortez, we would get a lot of possesion in the midfield.

The crazy thing about our team now, comparing to our last 10 years, is that we have many options in players and tactics.

I understand you Cris...I just think it's unfair calling Benitez "unprofessional" and "a twat". Back in my (high school and amateur) playing days, when I scored a great goal, sometimes I didn't even remember how I celebrated it until my teammates told me. It's a huge adrenaline rush.

Chucho scored probably the most important goal of his life yesterday. I doubt the first thing on his mind was "let me not take off my shirt because there's a rule against that".

    Agree on Guerron.

Totally disagree on Bolanos. He brought the team alive yesterday with his running on the left.

YES!! Or because, "I already have a yellow and I am needed for Venezuela."

BIG DIFFERENCE...c'mon now Manolo, que pasa? Benitez knew that a second yellow would ban him. I might understand if excitment allowed him overreact and pulled his shirt off but we see players all the time getting carded because of it. This is not a new rule - dumb and silly as it might be to you and me.

A professional, knows this while an amateur that is just out for fun doesn't care because it doesn't have the weight of bringing a team to the wolrd's largest event. on his shoulders. being a pro means acting like one for 90+ minutes.

Remember Schweinsteiger's little push against the Croatian in the Euro Cup because he felt he tackled him hard. it was harmful or hurtful but unprofessional - and he got a red. His little shove didn't effect the game as the ball was played on already and it wasn't intended to hurt the other player - but it was unsportmanlike behavior.

Benitez poor judgment might have cost us a badly needed goal in Venezuela.

    OH GOD, NOT ANOTHER ONE
    CASTILLO NO JUGARÍA ANTE VENEZUELA
    | Fecha : 2008-10-13 10:24:43 |

I just hope Vizuete will try to go for the win this time not settling for a point like he has done in previous away matches.

Seeing as how we did not get our full points when Venezuela played in Quito it is only logical to try to get them away. Venezuela, Peru and Bolivia are away games that can bring those additional points back to Ecuador if played well.

    Equipo PJ G E P GF GC +/- Puntos
    Paraguay 9 6 2 1 17 6 11 20
    Brasil 9 4 4 1 15 4 11 16
    Argentina 9 4 4 1 13 6 7 16
    Chile 9 4 1 4 13 13 0 13
    Uruguay 9 3 3 3 17 8 9 12
    Ecuador 9 3 3 3 11 14 -3 12
    Colombia 9 2 4 3 4 8 -4 10
    Bolivia 9 2 2 5 11 20 -9 8
    Venezuela 9 2 1 6 9 17 -8 7
    Perú 9 1 4 4 5 19 -14 7

This is a "must win" game.

Chile plays Argentina and unless they do a 180° turnaround, depending on the Uruguay - Bolivia game (my guess is, a Bolivian victory would best suit Ecuador) we will be able to jump above them on points putting us fourth behind Paraguay, Brazi and Argentina

So yeah, we cannot play this game for a tie because we aren't winning all our home games anymore and still ahve brazil, Paraguay and Argentina to face in Quito...those are not secured points by any means.

The gentleman Ivan Hurtado said it best:

"Ecuador respeta a todos los rivales. Venezuela no será la excepción, pero nosotros vamos con un objetivo claro: ganarle para seguir en camino a la clasificación", dijo el capitán de Ecuador, Iván Hurtado."

    http://www.eluniverso.com/2008/10/13/0001/15/CB7AC28BA5FF49F9ABA4D845D785783A.html

I'm glad we're being humble. When Vizuete said "El futbol de Ecuador es mejor que el futbol de Colombia", I cringed. Colombia tying us in Quito at least served to teach this guy a thing or two about being humble.

Guerron might not be part of the starting line up and
we might go with a 4-5-1

Pablo Palacios has a very similar style to that of the old Kaviedes, Palacios is not a good free kick shooter, but he is A LOT more active than Kaviedes ever was, excellent dribbling skills, good endurance, pressures the opponent's defenders, good header, decent outside shot and for those of us that watch the local tournament we know that Palacios can score.
I really wish for Vizuete to give this guy a chance If Palacios was able to make the fossil known as Zarate a decent player, he'll make Caicedo score.

I want those points back. Vizuete I do believe feels the same as I.

Guerron is benched? Good for him. He's got to be a team player. Still, I love him when he plays because even though you don't seem him..that is because he is feared. They at least send two players against him. It's like playing against 10 men.

    I want those points back.
