Great! What is your source? Will the game still be on TV?

I hadn't heard anything about this (other than that my tix are in the mail -- good to get that out of the way with the event uncertain, eh, Ticketmaster?). Could someone give me a brief explanation of what's going on? I'm assuming Japan backed out because of the war ...

well, I am glad there is going to be a game

Japan would have been a better opponent and Uruguay even better, I am surprised they didn't work that out. Maybe Uruguay decided not to make the trip.
Thank you Venezuela, maybe you can bring some cheerleaders with you.

Fifa.com no longer has a US game on that day, but that does not mean anything. A few days later Venezuela is playing Jamaica in Caracas. I imagine that a ok squad will show up for Venezuela. They are currently ranked 69th.

The Venezuelian federation website is down, so no confirmation from there.

You would be punctilious in that assessment. ;)

Your ticket will be good for whoever we play. At least now we pretty much know we'll see a US win... Most importantly friday night at Kell's is ON!

Well. My Japanese friend won't be as interested in going to a bar with me for that one.

Anyone know when the last time we played Venezuela was? I don't remember ever playing them.

US Soccer has put out a press release confirming this.

Ticket refunds are available for those who no longer wish to go.

    Sounds GREAT!!

Wish it was the Japanese we were playing, but at least we HAVE a game.

As far as the Japanese go, I understand & respect their decision though I don't agree with it!!

The fact is that when mlb cancelled their opening series in Tokyo, that "doomed" our soccer match-up!!

    ANOTHER reason to HATE baseball!!!!

I saw a news report here which says that we played them in the 1993 Copa America. The score was 1-1.

    Venezuela?

So what do we know about the Venezuela team? Who are their big players? Are they bringing their "A" team? Just a few questions I don't have enough time to look up on my own and I'm hoping someone else does.

Score was 3-3. Chris Henderson, Alexi Lalas and Dominic Kinnear scored the goals.

Are they still having those oil riots in Venezuela? If they are, will we back out of the game? ;)

This sucks. Japan would have been a MUCH better game. Oh well, I guess I just have to watch a US spanking of Venezula

I think no one wants to admit this, but props are probably in order to the USSF for finding another opponent on such short notice.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have Venezuela as a backup since Japan canceled the first time. I agree, the USSF did the best they could with a bad situation. Here's hoping for a high scoring and entertaining game in Seattle.

I think they will be better than Jamaica, and obviously below Argentina, so no spanking at all, probably 2-1, 2-0 at best IMO for the US. I saw them play some qualifers and looked they look pretty good, a solid challenge for the US.
