Taking this opportunity to start a thread for the new season, especially as the new Yank additions at Venezia have brought the total number to five:
    • Gianluca Busio
    • Tanner Tessmann
    • Andrija Novakovich
    • Patrick Leal
    • Jack de Vries

I'm not going to watch this match today, but I find it amusing that the match-tracker that I use lists Venezia as having 92% possession in the first 11 minutes of the match.

Bizarre lineup and bench due to Covid, I guess. Tessmann and Novakovich both start, though. No Americans on either bench, whether for Covid or tactics.

Tessmann just did a really cool half volley over a defender go beat him up the sideline, but the play god whistled dead for offside just before.

This Venezia team looks far weaker than last year's side, given the Covid absences, loss of some bigger budget guys, and lack of familiarity with one another.

This looks like a skinny diamond 4-4-2 with Novakovich the left striker and Tessmann the left mid.

Ascoli take the lead 1-0 on a goal by Dario Saric, on loan from the Phoenix Suns, apparently.

First half Yank assessment: Venezia probably deserves to be behind. Tessmann has been one of their better players, they've barely gotten the ball to Novakovich.

It's a pretty weak goal to give up. Ascoli took a short corner, worked it into the corner of the box and (based on my blurry feed) hit a shot right past the keeper from a narrow angle into the center of the goal.

Tessman wasn't involved, as he was marking at the far post.

Ascoli go up 2-0. Have only been paying half attention out of self-preservation. Venezia to have more time to focus on Serie B.

Venezia comes roaring back with two quick-fire goals from Mikaelsson in minute 88 and 89 to make it 2-2. Novakovich assisted on both goals.

Fontana (#99) just scored the winner on a bicycle kick!

There is a deflection so it might go down as an own goal.
