In the spirit of Chris Cornell + the guys from Rage comes Velvet Revolver!!!

    Scott Weiland + (Guns'n'Roses-Axel).

Now i've always thought that the problem with guns was Axel...

on the other hand I know that the problem with STP was Scott Weiland...

aren't Slash and company just trading one moody ********up for another?

Their album comes out next week i believe.

What do you in bigsoccerland think?

i've loved what I've heard ... i'll be buying it first thing tuesday when it comes out.

I thought Axl (not Axel, by the way) was one of the best frontmen ever ... of course he only has himself to blame for pissing it all away. he and slash were deadly.
i think velvet revolver is going to be great ... i'm glad slash finally has a decent band. i love listening to that man play the gee-tar.
you know what they should do? remember how david lee roth and sammy hagar toured? velvet revolver and the new GnR should co-headline a big summer tour. :D :D

Actually, a Velvet Revolver and Audioslave co-headline tour would be HUGE.

I just bought Contraband last week and was hugely disappointed. I expected the rest of the tracks to be at least 1/4 as good as Fall to Pieces, which they were not.

Actually the DeLeo brothers are a bit of ass---es themselves. Axl just threw fits and went crazy, Scott was a druggie who had problems with his band mates. Its was more of a two way problem than Axl's one man tirade.

100% agreed. The rest of the CD absolutely sucks nuts. I bought it, listened thru it one time, sold it on ebay. This was probably the worst cd purchase Ive made in quite some time. Fall To Pieces is a great song but it quickly goes downhill after that.

When it first came out I listened to the whole thing at VH1.com. My first reaction was, Fall To Pieces is a great song - the rest of them are very mediocre. Intersting to see you guys confirm that first impression.

I really think they should have gone with Sebastian Back instead of Weiland. But they were way too concerned with appearing to be as current and relevant as possible. Hey, maybe the number one record and over a million sold is evidence that he was the right choice, but I still think Sebastian would have been a much more exciting frontman and singer.

Of course everyone forgets that the man behind all those nice melodies on Appetite and beyond was Izzy.

    His solo stuff is great.

And oh yeah, can you get any more pathetic than Velvet revolver?

[corporate bigwigs]Hmmm, how can we make some money here? I know, let's get these guys who've already been successful, preferably with drug habits and long hair and...

flan, you're absolutely right about izzy.

but I think you're wrong on the other part ... they put the band together, recorded demos and then got a record deal. it's not like they're some corporate creation. unless of course I misunderstood your point.

    I like Velvet Revolver.

That said, I hate how they encoded the CD so I can't rip it onto my iPod. I mean I understand they don't want people trading it for free on the 'net, but still...I paid $15 for the damn album, if I want to convert it into a format that's more convenient for me to listen to I should be able to do that. Maybe put a serial number on the CD case and offer free downloads to people who have the serial number or something like that.

I call bull. Velvet Revolver I agree with. Not nearly as good as some had hoped, but Audioslave is damn good. Not all their stuff is top notch, but few bands can claim that. I liked the first CD, but the 'Whip' single didn't impress me, and isn't growing on me. The intro is good, but after the first 30 seconds it's mediocrity.

I had posted this on another forum, but I had three copy-protected cds (VR, Wildhearts and Silvertide) and they wouldn't even play in my PC. Bought a Mac and an ipod and they ripped fine and went right onto my ipod. It was odd ... I didn't install anything on my Mac to bypass the copy protection.

So i wonder if this would work ... do you know somebody with a mac? have them rip it, burn it and then give you the CD-R. see if you can then put that onto your ipod. it's a few extra steps but it's better than nothing. :)
