yes, yes we they are, the Galaxy are a blip in the soccer world, I've been a critic of Gregory for a long time but the way the league is structured the only way you get a big name Manager is if they're on the downside of their career and they're either looking for that one last big payday or one more shot at glory to prove they still have it. it doesn't help that highly regarded MLS Managers either fail or perform below expectations when they go to European leagues, which gives the perception that MLS is an inferior league, despite people clamoring that its just as good or better than the non big leagues, which of course is debatable no matter which side of the table you're on. Vanney is a known commodity in MLS and with the archaic rules and restrictions, any manager with foresight and willingness to stretch the boundaries of tactics, would struggle because of the roster and talent limitations of MLS, and MLS owners are not willing to take chances on unproven young managers, which is why you get the same managers recycled over and over. I've read some MLS chatter on what it would take to bring Xavi to MLS, however a highly regarded manager like Xavi, is considered too good to go to a Tottenham, he won't look MLS's way unless the money offered is earth shattering I see Xavi going back to Germany or Saudi Arabia for the F you money he will receive. and lets be honest, Real Madrid and clubs of their ilk are irrational when it comes to results and look for any transgression to sack someone and regardless of the manager, they always win because of how LaLiga is structured, same could be said about the Bundesliga Tottenham is an example of a club that has been too patient with some managers and to quick to fire others, they are now stuck in a cycle with no clear direction, they dumped Ange, who I felt should have been brought back on his Cup win alone but they moved on to Frank who has completely failed so far and is on the hot seat, the question is, should they sack him now before it gets worse or let him right the ship and go back to playing whack a mole with a new manager, because they have never shown consistency on how they treat managers, it sucks as a supporter to have some hope for a minute and then its dashed as it becomes same old Tottenham. as much as I'd love for Vanney to kick rocks, with his guaranteed contract and AEG being asleep at the wheel, he will be here till either he fails again like he did last year or he runs out of contract and good or bad (IMO Bad) AEG likes to stay the course, till they have to make a change and sometimes we just have to deal with it. at least we have Big Soccer around so we can bitch and moan, while nothing changes
At this point I'll take a crash dummy with a head full of dirty socks instead of Vanney. I just want change let's see how low we can go because once the league sees the bottom surely there is only one way to go and that is up!
So... Things aren't nearly as bleak this year (yet) as they were at the start of last season, but any more losses like last night's and the heat MUST turn up on Vanney. Last season we were coming off the championship and it would've looked bad if they didn't renew him, but the hesitance was certainly there with our pitiful start. In retrospect the FO would've been wise to wait, but if things get dire and it's clear that Vanney isn't up to the task of getting this group of players to play top 5 in the conference ball, then they must act. Unlike last year, and this is crucial, there are several capable free agent coaches available, number one of course for me is Wilfried Nancy. He's worked miracles with lesser teams and with our current squad and resources/ambition that SHOULD make for a potentially great union. What do you all think?
I would take Nancy in a heartbeat. I would even accept a bad 2026 if it means he gets a transfer window and a preseason to implement his tactics with the team.
It would be interesting to see as so many of the current players seem to have a low soccer IQ—would they be able to work smarter in a different system. Or maybe it's the current system's complexity and manager that just stifle fluid attack. It's like the players don't know how to identify and create triangles. I certainly don't know the answer. But is there anyone out there has an opinion?
Starting this season out so slow is a red flag. Vanney is definitely on a tightrope. Losing to KC - I just don't know how we expect to deal with the Vancouvers of the world. I don't see a lot of urgency, and I also feel that reliance on Yoshida and Reus is hurting us badly.
Vanney is on his third major rebuild. He’s had some incredible talent across each rebuild. There are a few possibilities, the Galaxy keeps buying low soccer IQ talent. The Galaxy keeps buying players who don’t take coaching. Greg can’t communicate his ideas and hasn’t adjusted the manner in which he conveys those ideas. Greg’s ideas are inflexible, both in-game and overall leading to poor performances in a game and across a season. There are probably more reasons those are just the first few off the top of my head. Somewhere there’s a big disconnect, either between the front office and Greg, Greg and the players, Greg’s abilities in the current MLS era. The one thing I am fairly certain of, is after 5 years none of those gaps have closed by any meaningful amount.
I agree with a lot of the previous comments. I was struck by how the players lacked any cohesion and for long spells it seemed like they had never played with each other. That's on Vanney. And yet we will continue to be told how complex his system is and that we just don't understand it. It's all bullocks but doubtful there will be any change.
from reading the comments, it seems that Kuntz and the rest of the C-suites left after the second goal, and they get in for free, so they shouldn't expect the fans to sit through this crap or even show up and they have a right to be disgruntled and the people on reddit seem to be more demoralized then us over here, so yay for us being positive!!! edit: to also add a lot of fans also know that protesting to get Vanney out like they did with Klein will not work because a certain supporters group bent the knee so the FO knows they are in control and will not let the fans dictate what they do going forward because they can hold out longer than the fan base
I actually believe protesting matters and hearing Vanney out chants at games makes a difference. 'Klein out' went so viral that ESPN called the Galaxy an "unserious team". These things can catch fire in the media and the Vanney out is spreading fast. People are starting to question Kuntz's ability and acumen, this is on him too. Keep the pressure on, news outlets love a story like this, and we know AEG has a pain point. ACB is fickle and divided, if the team keeps losing they will keep chanting. I don't think an organized boycott is necessary this time, the fans just won't come.
I'd like to see what Kuntz could do with a manager that can adapt to the personnel available and not try to fit players into a system that they aren't built for.
I just want to see him fire Greg and bring in a good manager. We can work on player personnel from there.
