Baxter's initial article was edited to include some quotes, including that, as some suspected, there was an agreement in place to extend Vanney before the season started. https://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/galaxy/story/2025-05-16/galaxy-extend-coach-greg-vanney
If we lose Sunday night does he get booed off the field? Do the fans support him? What about the week after that....This season isn't half over.
My reaction is, WTF. I guess they have a lot more faith in Vanney and blame the contract squeeze, many injuries and bad luck scenarios for the historic downfall. We all get the chance to watch whether or not it works. If Vanney sucks for another year an a half, I suppose they'll eat the contract, but this is a huge vote of confidence. Also, this is Kuntz tying his own success to Vanney. He'd better right.
meh, contract extension is fine and all that.. but with teams that mess with big spending (Lakers etc) a contract extension just means that they have the luxury of calling a fubar out and are willing to eat the contract and buy him out if things hit their point of no return (arent we living that right now)…. either way, as miserable as the present is it still pales to the utter misery I felt when Schelotto and/or Onalfo were in charge..
Given that we have not heard about the disposition of the Dejan's sale proceeds, when these funds could have been converted into GAM, makes me think that AEG took them and placed Kuntz into a no-win position for 2025.
What a pile of bull excrement! I guess AEG wants another boycott? They know better, winning is the only thing that matters. If that isn't happening people need to get sacked! Simple as that.
A handshake agreement means absolutely jack. My understand is we had a handshake deal with Billy Sharp, who'd moved his whole family over here, and we played him tough, like we absolutely should have with Vanney here. Baxter has been reporting on COG that Vanney's team has been holding out for a multi-year extension, which is why the deal wasn't getting done. The fact that a guy fighting for his job not only can't produce a win with this team, he can't STOP LOSING, should be a huge red flag to everyone. And we just gave him 3 years? Failing to get a deal done in December, then falling on that blade in mid-May after taking several historic losses is an embarrassing mistake reminiscent of the previous front office. If they end up having to fire Vanney and pay him for three years, it'll be another huge embarrassment. This FO threw an entire season away -- the first failure of the Kuntz regime and it's frankly an enormous one. Even under Klein we never destroyed a season this quickly.
Agreed with all of this. The Onalfo era wasn’t this bad results-wise, but I will say the ignominious, discarding of so many veteran players was more disrespectful.
