Odd timing, that's for sure https://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/galaxy/story/2025-05-16/galaxy-extend-coach-greg-vanney In the midst of a record 13-game winless drought to start the season, the defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy have extended Greg Vanney through 2028. The deal will make him one of the league's highest-paid coaches, per sources.https://t.co/PcHymgr5FA— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) May 16, 2025
First I heard of this was actually from From an email from the club to season ticket holders, basically Apologetically announcing the extension. LOL. Honestly, I don’t really know how I feel about Vanney anymore. Basically whatever the last thing I read is very influential on me. Some of you make excellent points as to why he needs to be fired immediately and others of you make excellent points about how it’s not really his fault. no one would’ve added an eye if they would’ve extended him in the summer. Seems really weird now
Sources: Framework of deal has been essentially set since the LA Galaxy's celebration the night of winning MLS Cup. Club prioritized offseason transfers over finalizing Vanney deal in preseason.Last 3 months were haggling over final details. At any rate, deal signed this week. https://t.co/coJvaNxyFz— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 16, 2025
Under the radar in the announcement was this move He was formerly an analytics guy with the Sounders and is well-respected. Not sure that's our main problem, but I'll try anything to help our defense Also as @PaulTenorio reported: LA Galaxy are hiring Ravi Ramineni to the front office.Ramineni previously worked for the Seattle Sounders. Highly-respected analytical mind in MLS circles. https://t.co/coJvaNxyFz— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 16, 2025 Big news out of LA, pre Trafico...This is a commitment to staying the course (that won MLS Cup, obvi) during arguably the toughest stretch in club history.(Also, adding Ravi Ramineni to the front office is a low-key big move.) https://t.co/BkLcSxGwEQ— Andrew Wiebe (@andrew_wiebe) May 16, 2025
as I don't want to get in trouble with Mr TrickHog, I will just put this PG gif, of what the Galaxy FO and Vanney are telling the majority of Galaxy fans
This is just bizarre. This upsets me about as much as the Klein extension, minus the cheating of course.
I am curious to see how STH's feel about this and if the membership numbers go up or down for the 2026 season and beyond.
Riqui, for one, is happy. This journey isn’t over yet.I came to LA to win titles, just like we did last season. It wouldn’t be the same without our coach by our side.We believe in the process.Let’s keep pushing forward together! https://t.co/MDvgvTQpUp— Riqui Puig (@RiquiPuig) May 16, 2025
I hope Riqui keeps that same enthusiasm when it comes time for him to negotiate a new contract and is willing to push forward and stay longer then his current contract, because he believes in the process
small sample but I’m “whatever” about it. basically, what I’m learning about myself is that I’ll tolerate just about anything for about a year if my team wins the championship. hear that Raiders and LA Kings?
I am surprised and it was not the news I was hoping for. I just hope the addition of the analytics guy and Juninho improve our defensive tactics and overall quality of play. Extremely low bar though. At least this eliminates some uncertainty. But I feel for you STHs.
LAFC are probably as happy about this news as we Duke bball fans were when UNC re-upped coach Hubert Davis’s contract.
since the Kings are under the AEG incompetence, the Raiders seem to be your best option of ever seeing a championship team, for the foreseeable future
Look, I get not firing him, I don’t agree with it, but I get it. Extending the contract of a coach who’s missed the playoffs three out of five years is wild.
It keeps getting worse. Apparently this deal will make Vanney the highest paid coach in the league that isn’t dual-hatted as the GM as well. Trying to wrap my head around it and maybe this deal was signed in principle so there was no backing out for Kuntz/Beckerman. I do wonder if we have the worst season in league history as we’re currently on target to do if Vanney survived. This is almost worse than the Klein renewal. Greg just set three ignominious leave and club records in the space of three games: worst start to a season, worst loss in club history and losing 1-0 to a team with zero shots taken.
Goodbye season tickets. Bummer. EDIT: if the letter actually had any sort of apology in it, I might have been conflicted, but as it is, there is none—only a call for my continued support. I seem to remember not too long ago the Galaxy asking me to continue to support Klein and go f*** myself (paraphrasing here). I’m feeling like the supporters have a better track record here than the front office.
This just reinforces my opinion that the FO knew this season was gonna be bad and all the moves are looking towards 2026 to go all in. So it doesn’t really matter what happens this season when it comes to Vanney’s status.
not going to happen, they wouldn't be able to buy their way up the ladder or make money from the off the field clown show.
