If it's really true, congratulations to Vancouver. I'm sure it will be a great addition to MLS. That being said, if I was in Vancouver, I wouldn't get too excited until I saw the news on MLSnet.com and at an official press conference. I remember about a month and a half ago us Miami fans were getting preemptive "congratulations" from some BS posters as news leaking out seemed almost certain that Miami would be getting a team, and we all know how that turned out.
I'm not getting too excited until I see Garber say those words myself. Now I'm hoping that will happen next week. Even then I hope we in Vancouver are classy enough to avoid coming on here and being bad 'winners'.
I'm very happy to see Vancouver achieve this , you were the best pick! USL will miss you as a top repected team! Hope you guy's have a new stadium soon!
Most Vancouverites are already posting on the Voyageurs and Southsiders boards... only a scant few such as myself are willing to subject themselves to the tiresome and unrealistic fanboy rantings coming out of some of the other bid cities. We've known for 35 years that Vancouver, Portland and Seattle are the three best markets on the continent. Convincing others who don't understand the Cascadia rivalry and history is a tiresome, tedious task indeed.
Exactly. This really is a secondary or tertiary board for most Canadian soccer posters. I get most of my Canadian soccer info from Voyageurs and a couple of TFC boards instead of here.
Sorry. I forgot the "I'm just being a smartass emoticon" All kidding aside, if this pans out, Vancouver will be a great addition to MLS. Sorry if that came out wrong!
Hypothetically, if they were to announce Vancouver as a franchise on Wednesday, then we would have to have a press release about a news conference after midnight Tues evening. This is normal practice. Perhaps they'll announce it Thursday morning and then Garber will travel down to Seattle. Or perhaps nothing will happen at all. Hopefully we'll get some rumblings tomorrow.
Well Portland "MLS" Owner will be in seattle for Thursdays game which could be possibility of announcing both cities and have a press thing on Thursday assuming Van's "MLS" owner is heading to seattle as well.
Press conference Wednesday: http://www.team1040.ca/news/story/?id=1847 "Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be announced as the 17th team in MLS in the next 24 hours and confirmed in a media conference to be held Wednesday in downtown Vancouver."
Agreed. You guys are going to be a great franchise. Hopefully Kerfoot and company do their best to hype the team as much as possible from now until 2011. You should be able to get attendance numbers similar to what Seattle is getting. Edit: CBC's announcement of tomorrow's press conference- http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2009/03/17/sp-whitecaps-expansion.html
Re: Vancouver news conference tomorrow "big announcement" Whitecaps Whitecaps expected to announce they will join MLS in 2011
On behalf of the entire San Jose Earthquakes organization, we would like to welcome you to MLS. We look forward to expanding the Cascadia Cup into Northern California and holding it above our heads. Anthony Perry Ticket Sales Representative, Supporter's Group Liaison San Jose Earthquakes
the cascadia cup can't extend into northern california, because northern california is not in cascadia.
LOL. Why don't you worry about continuing to be second-fiddle to Spice Boy FC, and not worry about butting into our regional cup.
