Argh! Is there no end to the madness? I don't have a link but Arnesen said that if we sign anyone in the transfer window it'll be MvB. How many midfielders do we need?

    Possibles on the way out?
    Redknapp - Crap
    JJ - Crap
Davies (lets face it, he's been crap lately)
    Ricketts - Coventry...

I think he would give us more depth but just don't understand why we didn't get him in the summer??

As for those who are leaving tough to see us get rid of any of those with the exception of JJ who needs a change of scenery to get himself back on track.

We need the depth so if anyone leaves in Jan. it will be Richards and maybe Gardner as he has talked about leaving I think.

I would include Bunje but he got some crazy leg problem like Ziege had and will be out for 3 to 4 months so that rules him out. And he was actually getting some time on the pitch which must make it all the worse for Bunje, good luck and I hope you come back stronger than ever.

Bunjy, Richards, Taricco, Redknapp, Athouba should all be offloaded as soon as possible. I don't think it would be best to spend the money on MvB and he's being chased by Real Madrid anyway so just can't see it happening. We need wingers

Jol said again yesterday that we definitely need wingers. If Frank can get one quality one for each side that would make such a strong difference to the team.

I think if they sign another centre midfield, it should really be a young prospect a la Ziegler or Davenport.

I dont think we wanted to pay £4m-£5m for a player who is out of of contract at the end of the season. Now PSV will only get about £2m for him. It may all depend whether PSV make it through in the Champions League (hopefully they will at the expense of Arsenal)

Tottenham Spurs will never get Mark van Bommel, how ambitious they might be.

He's TOO good for the Spurs, he's amongst the best defending midfielders in the world, seen from a neutral football-expert view.
It says alot when he's being chased by Real, Bayern and Dortmund.
He won't leave PSV this winter for a bargain price.
With all the interest in him and PSV's need for him to stay especially for the Champions League. The Spurs haven't got a chance.

I doubt Spurs will sign him and I hope they don't, but you've got to be kidding me with this hype!! I've seen him play, and in particular I monitored him heavily over the past year when I was first linked to Spurs.

He may have refound his form this year and he has a good shot on him, but last season he looked poor. In particular I remember UEFA cup games against Newcastle where he was non-existant and dominated by their midfield. He lacks mobility and is outfought against aggressive teams. He may look good against the weaker teams in the Eredivisie, but he's not turned it on consistently at the bigger stages, and at 27 he should have done that by now.

If Van Bommel was so good he would have moved already, he was hardly at an exorbitant price tag in the summer.

Perhaps he doesn't fancy Germany cos the league isn't too exciting and the money's not as good as the 3 bigger leagues. That leaves Real Madrid, who really wanted Viera or Emerson to fill the defensive midfielder role, or possibly Everton. Expect to see MvB at the Lane in January

Have to agree that he if he was so good he would have been gone in the summer and the price tag wasn't even that high, 3-4 million isn't too much for a quality signing.

Real Madrid want someone more talented than Van Bommel to take over as their primary def midfielder so those links reak of the players agent trying to make him out to be better than he is.

Too good for Spurs? You mean like Klinsmann, Ginola, King, Defoe, Hoddle, Greaves, Jennings, Waddle, Gascoigne, Lineker, Sheringham, Robinson, (and I could go on for another page of players), were?

You sir, are an ignorant prick. Now ******** off!

The problem is we already have one of the best defensive midfielders on the planet in Pedro Mendes (has van Bommel ever won the champions league? i think not). In addition, we have Sean Davis and Michael Carrick to fill the central midfield places. Assuming we continue playing 442 then there's no need for more defensive midfielders surely. Left winger first

If they sign another defensive midfield I think it should be some young gem that Frank has picked out, someone willing to be 4th choice and who can be polished. Don't need the Dutch version of Redknapp really and I doubt this transfer story is genuinely on the cards.

Well said, we have & have had bigger & better players than van Bommel. We got Pedro Mendes to leave the European Champions, a team who he could have won lots more trophies with. We dont even need van Bommel anymore, we have plenty of players who can play that position

He's desperate to sign for us:
Depends on his wages, but I would definitely welcome him for such a miniscule transfer fee seeing as he's so keen on us. Not an urgent signing by any means, but to have 4 quality central midfielders in Mendes, Van Bommel, Davis and Carrick - can't argue with that.

Brown and especially Redknapp can then be moved on, which would fund it so we'd still have all the January transfer fund to spend on a couple of wingers and maybe a striker.

Today we've been linked to Yakubu of Portsmouth. He'd be very pricey, but there's also talk of Robbie Keane moving to Everton for a full 7 million or of Kanoute going to Pompey in part-exchange.

Yakubu would be a really good signing. Young & powerfull, & has scored goals in the Champions League. Robbie Keane going to Everton for £7m, i would take that.

We need double cover in every position, also in the central midfield where especially Sean Davis is injury-prone. Eventhough Michael Brown had a good game against Arsenal, I don't see him as an option. IMO there is room for MvB.

    Sean Davis
    Pedro Mendes
    Mark van Bommel
    Michael Carrick

They reckon in Spain that he is moving to Real. Will be happy when this is sorted out one way or the other. Would not be disappointed to see him arrive if Frank wants him and he's cheap, but not too bothered if he goes elsewhere.

Bit early for a January transfer thread, although there are rumours that Frank has already set up some deals.
