I mean, the main reason he signed a new deal is because he got injured and we couldn't leave him on the street. Things were definitely not so clear cut before that.
Yeah. But he was playing a few minutes off the bench a few days ago. He wasn't terrible imo. Then out of the blue, he stopped getting PT. There seems to be something going on here.
Maybe he thought Carva isn't ready to start a match yet and TAA obviously wasn't ready to start. Carva defended poorly after coming on as a sub against Albacete but got minutes in Monaco game too so maybe not a punishment.
It's a34 year old after multiple life changing injuries. It takes an insane amount of entitlement to ignore the truth.
He feels he can help the team like he has many times in the past. Doesn’t seem that crazy to me. Why is that not team oriented. Surely all these guys want to play and help.
Carvajal's preoccupation with playing has to do with the upcoming World Cup more than anything else. It is almost mid-Februrary and he has yet to play more than a handful of minutes in a game. If there was no World Cup this summer, he probably wouldn't be pushing so hard to play. This World Cup is his last hurrah. There was already talk in Saudi Arabia that he was fairly vocal about not playing in the Super Cup. If Arbeloa is playing Jimenez over him, it is because he thinks he is not ready or still an injury risk. Jimenez is not some highly sought after youth player that management is invested in. He is an emergency call up, and nothing else. Arbeloa gave Carvajal some minutes at the end of the Copy del Rey game and he got burned twice in basically 5 minutes. This also tells me that management is probably leaning towards not renewing Carvajal because they are ok with ignoring his demands and letting him throw a fit. Or at the very least they are letting him know that he will not be the default starter if sticks around another year.
I dunno maybe Arbeloa is the type that holds grudges. Carvajal was directly responsible for the Albacete exit and the RB was docked afterwards. The coach did the same with Carreras after his below average performance vs Benfica (he obviously can't touch Junior who exposed Carreras), he went with a midfielder as LB and AS reported that Carreras is no longer an undisputed starter. Good thing he responded swiftly vs Valencia.
Which team? Because in the games in Sept and then vs Albacete, he wasn't helping our team. Quite the opposite. His presence is ceremonial at this point because of the ACL and subsequent auto renewal. He has no reason to complain in public.
If you believe he wants to play in a World Cup year after an ACL and countless other injuries because he wants to help the team - good luck to you.
For a true fabrica product that laid the foundational brick to Valdebebas, Carvajals leadership (lack of it) and putting himself above the team has been quite disappointing. The club owes him nothing. They generously extended his contract when they probably shouldn’t have.
