When will MLS put an end to this ridiculous situation? The guy is bent on sucking every cent he can from the gringos. How much are we paying this old guy? shouldn't we use that money on someone with a better future?
There is another similar thread on El Pibe. Alright Carlos for re-uping. Have some respect for the MLS all-time assist leader. The guy loves the game and can still cut the mustard. Hes lazy at times and doesnt hustle, but is a magician with the ball. Yeah he needs a haircut, but I enjoy watching him play. Lets see how many of these current players can still produce at age 40.
How old is he now? 41? I think that he can play until he gets 50. He doesn't have any injury and he's very clever to avoid it...It's fun to watch him anyway, besides the great Maradona...
He has said before that after he retire's he would like to give back to the soccer community and get involed with coaching in the Tampa area where his family is. He is taking community college classes in English at my school and he is a pretty nice guy, alot different than his on-field persona. Doesn't sound like someone who is trying to suck every cent out of the gringos to me.
The only thing that bothers me is the obvious "Carlos" rule. In the season opener, I watched Matt McKeon (admittedly not a saint) get called for a foul for essentially being within 5 feet of Valderrama.
Carlos' Farewell Tour MLS should promote Carlos' final season like MLB did with Ripkin. His last appearance in each city should have special promotions and media attention. MLS needs to start building some tradition around its great players.
That's just one case. I've watched other Rapids games on TV and witnessed plenty of other "proximity fouls" on Carlos. Protecting the stars is one thing, but this is getting ridiculous.
