    Such a bummer. Think he will do very well somewhere else that will allow him to be the main man without putting him under a microscope.

    Think this sums it up pretty well. Coming into the season, Martial had a golden chance this season to stake his place in the national team ahead of the Euros this summer.
    Can still do so of course, but he's definitely not helping himself right now. I'm a fan of his, but it's getting harder and harder to defend him right now. And it's all the more frustrating because he's needed, badly: he can be a difference maker for us going down the stretch.

    Interesting that Martial, who is still not fit to play for us, has been called up by Deschamps.

    The fact that that’s what is being picked out of that interview is ********ing depressingly typical of the media.

    We should be talking exclusively about how much of a ******** Mourinho is.

    Makes me more angry the more I read it. Mourinho feigning a meltdown about what Ole said, having publicly dug out Martial because he stayed home to feed his son.

    I think he is referring to this weekend’s “you always feed your children” remark from Mourinho.

    Yup. Mourinho saying Son is lucky that his dad is a better person than Ole, you should always feed your kid even if you have to steal.

    Martial tells the club he is staying home to look after his kid because his girlfriend is bedridden after childbirth.

    THat's how interviews work. All our players and their family should have media training. You can say a lot of stuff, but at least that bit about the birth of his son was included. Still, you cannot, talk about another club like that's where you/he want to be ever, but certainly not in this form/fitness. That's daft.

    The headline worked, we clicked if it got attention. Nobody would read the story if the headline was Anto is a good dad and husband and he took care of me when i was ill/pregnant.

    With the stupid rumor of a possible Martial (plus cash) for Kane already making the rounds, I hope we'll see Tony come off the bench and score the winner for us next week vs Villareal, to help us secure the EL.
    Perfect scenario would call for Cav to be on the scoresheet as well.

    let's move this discussion here - what will constitute a good season for him next season then? in terms of numbers? he'll likely end this season on 4G/7A league and 7G/12A overall

    @jeff070 too

    no need to. it's fine as is i just wanted to have any potential discussion in his thread just in case it got lengthy.

    also easier to reference here rather than at a random spot in another thread. i'm curious as to what will be a redeeming season for Martial for other posters

    He needs to show a season long consistency or I’m done with him. Redemption would be consistent play with 30+ GI

    It depends on what his playing time is. I think if he's below .5 goal contributions per 90, he'll be dissapointed. I'd be happy with .7 from him given the other areas of the game he is good at.
