I've looked everywhere and the only thing I've found is a box score at matchnite.com http://www.matchnight.com/mn-teamreport.cfm?Page=FIXTURES&TeamID=34 It says the final score is 0-0 but I can't find any comments on the game. *sigh* It is soo difficult in the off-season...
nil-nil? I hope thats wrong. But yes the level of coverage in MLS is just ridiculous. We're never going to be taken seriously until we at least can cover what happened to one of our teams in pre-season. How hard would it be to post a score on MLSnet? Amateurs.
I went to the game last night (COLD!) and was a bit surprised that Dallas did not do as well as I expected. I think the news article is a fair assessment of what happened but I will add one or two more comments. Dallas definitely had the better of the first 10-15 minutes of the game as some of the Mariners were adjusting to one another. For example, not mentioned in the article was Phil Hucles who had been drafted by Chicago but is completing school at William and Mary. It appears he will play with the Mariners. He along with one or two others were trying to find a rhythm working together. Sanchez, the central mid for the Mariners was all over the place (in a good way). He definitely aided the Mariners cause. I found the Dallas forwards to be extremely dangerous but lacked the finishing touch. There were several excellent opportunities for Dallas to put it away (including open net) and they horribly missed. One time the forward (don't know his name) "schooled" several players and beat the last defender only to play his final touch beyond the end line when a goal appeared to be imminent. Alas that is soccer.
Interesting quote from the end of the article about CC and Jolley: Dallas won just 6 of 30 games last season, but Jolley said he’s looking forward to helping the Burn rebuild. “It’s exciting any time an organization and a coach want you to play for them,’’ he said. “The first day I was in Dallas, the coach had me in his office telling me how we needed to upgrade the professionalism of the organization and how he wanted me to be a part of that. “No one player is going to come in and win a championship for the Dallas Burn. But a player who works hard and has a positive attitude can rub off a lot on a roster that’s already got some pretty good talent.’’ Professionalism and a Positive Attitude
Alas, that is soccer in Dallas. Although I was not at the game let me take a guess, the culprit, a tall dark fellow wearing #7? If the folks on the DC web are right about Reyes, and yes they might be biased, he might be the real deal. Do you concur with them that he was "a cut above" all other Burn players? He was the guy playing right outside fullback. Tell us more about your Sanchez. We might be in need of this type of "dirty Sanchez". (BTW "dirty Sanchez": is a DB term, not an insult)
I cannot say what number he was wearing. I suspect you are correct however because of your description. I should have mentioned earlier that Cory Gibbs was excellent. I watched him shut down the Dutch forward (Van???) and he closed down most of the potential threats from the Mariners. Sanchez was new to the Mariners from a South American country. Unfortunately, identification of players was difficult because of all the new faces for the Mariners and the absence of programs. On the big screen, for example, Hucles was originally listed as playing with the #19 jersey, but came out with #14 on his back, while wearing #16 on his shorts.
