Virginia wins 2-0 after a sloppy start. Giallombardo kept the slate clean with two big saves. Goals by Chris Tierney and N.Barlow. Villanueva and Dane Murphy struggled in the midfield and were replaced by LaBauex and Will Hall who both had good games. SMU is up next for the Cavs and will be a good test.

JV really needs to pull himself out of this slump sooner rather than later.

He had a good game, by all accounts, against Columbia. We will see.

Not by this account. Early in the first half against Columbia, jv dribbled a bit and made some passes. Then, as the half wore on, defenders caught up to him from behind repeatedly and disposessed him. Or, he would dribble straight into double and triple coverage and lose the ball. He made the pass (a lovely through-ball), to lead to the pk, I'll give him that. The last appx twenty minutes of the first half, though, he was all but invisible. He came out in the second half and did nothing, and was subbed out IIRC around the hour mark. All in all, jv appeared to me, as he has in a number of other matches I have attended, mailed it in yet again.

I really would like to see the jv people rave about. I admit it could very well be I have not seen enough games, and I missed the ones in which he played well last season. But I have not seen him play particularly well in the UVA regular season matches I attended last year, nor did I in the 2006 NCAAs. And the pattern has continued in the Columbia match, and, as I hear, in the Richmond match. GG must see something in him, after all he gave him the #10 shirt and apparently lets him roam the midfield. But in the Columbia game, the real mover and shaker in the midfield for UVA was Jeremy Barlow.
