Utah Royals FC 4-2-3-1 crazy that both DF Guzman and FWD Solórzano, big off season signings that were supposed to be an upgrade, are not starting. Guzman came injured and is 19/20yrs old. Not even on the bench. Solórzano is on the bench. She’s the signing I am most excited about.
So... what happened to the Royals? I was really excited for them, with how they finished last season and the players that have brought in. But... they have been terrible.
Just flipped the game on. After the royals not scoring much at all this year, they have 3goals in the first 36 minutes!!! And then the ref, for no good reason, gives Washington 2extra minutes and couple great chances to score passed the announced +3. It definitely seemed a bizarre/biased choice.
Still 3-2. The 2nd half has largely been a barrage on our goal. Around 88’ our RB Thomsen gets burned (AGAIN!!!) but stupidly pulls down the player just inside the edge of the box with a load of players between her and the goal. PK justly awarded. Local girl Hatch, who plays for Washington, steps up and takes a well hit but poorly placed PK which is saved. Still 3-2. +13minutes! There have been many VAR checks and players on the ground. It’s deserved.
That was a great cross and then an amazing header by Krueger. 3-3 @ +12/13 Curious to see how much extra time the ref gives Washington to try and score a go ahead. edit: just 1, and most of that was RSL attacking.
She did enough to deserve a win, but trying to park the bus for the ENTIRE second half got us exactly what we deserved. I'm ready for a coaching change because this team has been disappointing all season.
It's extra frustrating, because they did so well last year after they made the change from ARod and Hyncik.
Seriously. We look like the ARod team again. Many goals conceded from unforced errors trying to play out of the back, yet we keep doing it. Zero attacking creativity in the opponent's half. Most goals come from direct balls over the top, but are few and far between. And the one time we had the lead at half we bunkered the entire 2nd half, with predictable results. It's been hard to watch.
