Plus, we're not talking about the sub patterns for one player. There's usually a few players who play almost every minute of a tournament. We're talking about the lack of rotation and subs for the entire starting XI.
So gutted for Colombia. Can’t believe they blew a 2-0 lead and crapped out in the penalty shootout. But alas, they were playing Spain…
It's perfectly valid to opine that we should have made more changes for the last group stage match, but there was an implication on the broadcast that it was a standard thing we had done and that lineup consistency was for World Cups, where there are more days between games. In reality, I'm not sure any of our previous gold medal runs featured a single instance of a healthy player being pulled from the starting XI just to rest them. In 2016 after winning the first two matches we made more changes for the last group match; it didn't help in the quarterfinal.
They just were too slow and tried to play thru Japan too much (while also having plenty of poor touches and poor passes). Need to see more combination play amd more varied attack. They could also use a deep playmaker that commits defenders to open up passing lanes. It will be interesting to see how this team grows as they are really just getting started.
Well.. We scraped through on ‘Trinny Brilliance’ Let’s hope Emma has a plan for the German 2.0 match cuz I thought we looked pooped. EDIT: Brazil 1-0
I believe that depends on the basis for the red. All reds come with a one game, some come with more. (I didn’t watch the game, so I have no idea what hers was. If it was DOGSO or offensive behavior, it is probably only one. If it was serious foul play or violent conduct, it is probably more than one.)
That is not how it worked for Ramirez from Colombia though. She got a straight red for a lesser infraction (stepping on ankle of opponent), and she had to sit two games plus the one she was carded in.
No. a Red card is one match suspension unless it’s for fighting or striking a ref. https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/6d0ba...nts-2024-preliminary-competition_EN_final.pdf Page 16 article 11.5
🇨🇴 🟥 Mayra Ramirez got a two-game suspension for this above the ankle studded challenge.🇧🇷🟥 There’s a good chance Marta gets the same for her high boot straight red against Spain. 🥇 🥈🥉 In that case, Brazil would need to make a medal match for her to play again at the OLY pic.twitter.com/2WlGW0dNvu— Theo Lloyd-Hughes (@theolloydhughes) July 31, 2024
From the regulations i posted: “11.4 If players or team officials receive two cautions during two different matches, they will automatically be suspended from their team’s subsequent match. 11.5 If players or team officials are sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card, they will automatically be suspended from their team’s subsequent match.” Are you Sure Ramirez didnt get a yellow card accumulation suspension AND a red card suspension? Or did her foul Send a player out injured? I didnt See that match. from the AP: https://apnews.com/article/olympics-2024-marta-brazil-red-258e93030280a402df07390c3891d935 “Marta will be suspended for the match (France) because of the red card, but if Brazil can beat the hosts there’s a chance she’ll appear in the semifinals” Wē are Done On this topic.
Yep. It’s from yelling a kids when they mess up. It’s why none of our players, men or women, know how to challenge a defender. They were taught that if they challenge a defender when a teammate was open for the pass and lose the ball, they are coming out. So they make the wasted pass instead of creating something thrilling with speed and confidence.
I thought she did very well. She got out-athleted a couple of times late, but nothing came of it. She and Girma had to both stay alert to counters and also start the possessions all game. There was no serviceable pivot for the US, so I give them both some bonus points.
I thought Sonnett had a poor match. Often muscled off the ball and poor positioning. when she did get the ball, she was scared and intentionally kicked the ball out of bounds rather than build from the back.
