Ice baths, Normatec leg sleeves, and massages for all the starters. Time to get recovered for the next match, because I'm starting to think we'll see the same starting 11, except for Coffey back in (and possibly Fox out? Hope not, but looks like she was really injured.)
Obviously, Rodman was the player of the overtime -- offensively and defensively. On a team of tired players she looked as cool and fresh as if it were the first 30, not the final 30. We're going to go in the semis a beat up team.
Didn't see the game, saw the goal though. Did Fox pickup the knock from being Rodman's landing pad /bottom of the pile during the goal celebration?
Player of overtime definitely goes to Rodman. Player of the whole match for me goes to Girma...calm, cool, and collected the whole game. She's such a good anticipator, too, of what's happening on the field. I'll also give props to Dunn who got a lot of criticism before this tournament started, but has been solid this tournament, and was very good in this match, including getting the assist with that long, diagonal ball. No, it was from an attempted clearance in the box. I'm not sure if she hyperextended the knee or if it was from the landing (with a twist). She collided a bit on the clearance with a Japanese player, but there was no contact with the knee there.
Any of you Sonnet fans still out there? That lady is gonna give me a flipping heart attack man. I’d take my chances with Emily Sams before I’d put her back in, I hope Davidson is good to go…
Geez, what an ugly way to win: 😐 pic.twitter.com/hvuNx3a1pa— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) August 3, 2024 Even though this was a difficult win, this didn't feel the same as the grinding-it-out performances of the last Olympics. Based on the group stage games, it feels like we can turn it around in the next game, especially if we play some rested players. Anyway, at the end of the day, getting the result is what matters, and it helps to have a difference-maker to do that: 4 - Trinity Rodman is the first #USWNT player to contribute to a goal in each of her first four matches of a major tournament (Olympics or World Cup) since Alex Morgan (all 6) and Abby Wambach (first 5) in the 2012 Olympics. Since lineup rotation discourse has been a thing, I will note that Julie Foudy started 16 of 16 matches over her three Olympics, and was only subbed out twice.
Since I couldn't have said it better myself: I feel like patience is often used in football as a stand-in for lack of ideas. There is a difference between passing to move your opponent out of position and passing because your opponent is happy to let you have the ball in certain areas of the pitch— JPH (@jessyjph) August 3, 2024
Back in Foudy's days, very few other national teams had much of a strength training program. They didn't push Judy much!! It was much easier.
She wasn't playing up top and didn't have the same responsibilities of the players who are gassed on this team.
