USWNT v Japan in April 2026, pre/pbp/post

I would love to see those players there. I just think the midfield (fuller) has too many players, and the window is closing down for new players. At some point (soon), Emma needs to start cutting players and build chemistry. The only way I see new players getting into the USWNT is if they have a World-Class year.

My plan is to continue to meet and party with members of the original Team to such an extent that they are left with no other choice than to proclaim me an “Honorary 85er”!!!!! I know it will never happen but it sounds like a fun plan.

A few turnovers in the defensive midfield

 

both teams playing very deliberate possession, just waiting for the other side to make an error on defense

 

I really dislike this type of possession (ie, passing around the back line for 5 minutes).

 

I wanted that goal.

 

Wilson has looked good the past couple minutes.

Girma was seeing stars, but alas twas not to be.

 

Easily could have been 1-0 there. Wilson and/or Girma on the 2nd/3rd bite off the corner.

 

I wasn't expecting the need for a stretcher and an early sub for Japan.

 

Ruh roh, let's hope we don't need another stretcher for Davidson.

 

I hate this game. Now a sub for Davidson who is concussed. Sams to come in.

 

That field is a frozen tundra.

I've played tackle football on frozen grass fields and it was like playing on cement.

 

If my Japanese lip reading is at all close the injured player said at one point, "I do not know. I'm just dizzy and my face hurts." Right after that one of the people on the field to treat her signaled for the stretcher.

FWIW: I have noticed that a cold field increases head injuries. It looks like the USA is subbing a player as well. The Japanese sub was a concussion sub and the USA may be making one as well.

 

At least it's not Davidson's knee.

 

Davidson was waiting for a long while to be allowed back on. Full strength again.

 

Wilson with a beautiful turn and Rodman flubbed that pass. Ugh.

 

Glad Davidson can continue.
