Our women's kit on Sunday struck me as awfully plain and uninspiring. A plain white jersey with no trim or collar and plain white socks didn't exactly catch the eye. The shorts with the white trim looked neat and classy. Did anybody else wonder about that uniform?

Expect a redoing of the unis for the 2003 WWC.

Uhhh someone go find the SIW article that contained this blurb please.

IIRC from another article...it is suppose to be similar to the new mens kits...the blue scheme instead of red.

I hope they don't make the uniforms like the U.S. men's... it looked like they ran short on red and blue fabric! I liked the uniforms the women wore for the '96 Olympics.

    Re: Why???

Because when the WNT wears the same kit as the mens NT they look dumb. :D

Baggy kits that are 2 sizes to big. IMO Women don't look right playing in one thats so baggy and has a big ass collar that just gets in the way.

I kinda think its cool that Nike goes out of it's way to design our WNT thier own kit.
I myself like the red one. The white shirt and blue shorts they wore on Sunday were pretty classy.

    my 2 cents anyway.

this is all about bussines, Nike made the design for almost all members of FIFA ( that's why all look similar except for colour combination ) and split the money from sales. I myself like the white on top and blue short + white socks ) for woman soccer, just like what they wore during final 2000 olympic.

The difference betwixt the Scotland match unis and the Norway handball unis is that on Sunday their shorts had white stripes down the side whereas the Norway handball unis had red stripes down the side.

I like the '99 WWC uniforms. Aside from generally looking like normal soccer uniforms, they evoke a championship feeling and championship memories.

And as for the question, why does the WNT wear different uniforms from the MNT, the question is wrong. The WNT is the defending world champion and a team with proven drawing power in the USA. The men's team is getting there. The real question is, why does the MNT wear uniforms different from their sister world championship team? ;) In The Games That Rate, I suggested that the WNT consistency of uniforms and championship associations made those uniforms the appropriate choice for both national teams.

Does anyone have any upclose shots of the unis from the Columbus game? (I don't have cable, so no go on seeing the unis..and I have yet to find a photo from the game)

I've always enjoyed the blue and white ones... something classy about them... and the red and blues, too- the power of the red..with the blue..hmm.. speaks of a champion to me.... the all whites.. ech...

I'm glad I saw the winky, othewise I would have locked and loaded the flamethrower :D

Why don't the women have two stars above the crest for the World Cups won?

But the men's and women's designs should be the same. After all, it's all the same team, just different categories.

I like the red and blue combination best, personally.

And they DO have two stars, but they are on the right sleeve.

I'm anxious to see what they have in store for WWC '03... hmmmmmmmm...

I wondered about that. I believe the Brazilian men put the stars above the badge on the left breast. The women's uniforms sure could use a little spicing up. Putting the stars in the right place would be a start.

All World Cup winners do that. I don't see why the USA has to be different. BTW, the CBF (Brasilian FA) has said that if the women win a World Cup, they will add another star for them.

It does; supposedly for the USSF, AYSO, and USASA.

In the old days, the crest had had 13 stars (int'l matches) or five rings (Olympic games).

    Interesting Gold Cup trends:

    1. Russia, a Nike team, wore its men's jersey for the match vs. Italy.

    2. The US women, though it could have chosen to wear an all-white strip vs. Australia, didn't. Instead, it wore the blue shorts with a white stripe -- kind of like how the US men did for the World Cup (1-1 draw with Korea excepted).

2a. These shorts were different from the blues worn by the US women for the Olympic final, which were blue with red stripes down the side.

    3. Does this mean our women will be wearing a clone of the men's strip at China 2003?

There was a thread (deleted after the meltdown) where it was mentioned that the stars in the crest represent the Men's, Women's and Youth national teams. The 11 stripes represent the 11 players, but I digress.
The Italian men's team wear their stars on their sleeves on some of their jerseys (look closely at this image and you'll see them). The US women are not unique nor the originator in this.

My guess is the designer didn't want to have the championship stars confused with the stars in the crest.

I agree with TOTC. I don't want out women wearing this. It's ugly. I hope they get their own design. I like the fact that the WNT kit is unique.
