Do we learn anything by playing those teams? Maybe if players don't play well, but outside of that, not really. (Training could also help Emma.)
This is just silly no matter how often repeated. You can only play whoever is available to play, and if you don't play but a few times a year, rot sets in and you are no longer good enough to play good teams. Use it or lose it.
I heard Netflix secured the rights to the Woman's world cup in Brazil. Just a heads up. Not sure if that is posted anywhere. And that's for 2027 and 2031. The FIFA Women's World Cup will appear on Netflix in 2027 and 2031 - Netflix Tudum
For me this is horrible news. I do not subscribe to Netflix and I do not want to but I do want to watch the WWC. I already subscribe to Paramount + and I get Prime through my regular Prime membership but I have been able to avoid Netflix for most of the years it has existed. I guess a one or two month sub will not kill me but I think it is a horrible idea to hide the WWC behind a pay wall as the will limit exposure. I believe the USA matches will be on regular TV but that may not be true and even if it is it is not only the USA matches I am interested in. I am sure I will survive but that "survival" will be less pleasant than it has been in the past.
Hayes has said publicly that no matter the opponent, it is about seeing how the players are able to handle the tactics and instructions. And she's talking about both new players and those with more experience. She's said that multiple times.
I've been listening to various entertainment pods and they have said that one of the things Netflix is doing is getting into live sporting events. I think this was mostly in relation to the recent boxing match (don't remember, or care, who), but just about every time, the WWC got mentioned as well.
July 2 vs Canada should be an tough game, last couple of times we only managed PK shootout wins against them
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/45487912/emma-hayes-uswnt-stars-summer-break Emma Hayes giving overworked USWNT stars summer break Jeff Kassouf June 10, 2025 All Europe-based national team players except Naomi Girma to be rested next call-up. Think this is very sensible and we are definitely deep enough to field a very competitive team for these friendlies. Speculation that some positions filled by U23s.
So: no Yohannes, Heaps, Dunn, Albert, Fox, Macario, nor Tullis-Joyce. I'd say recall all other players from last time and add Hershfelt, Bethune, Lavelle. Rest of the options from the U23s and/or anyone from the league who's been overlooked. The roster should be announced next week.
Yup. I would expect call ups for Shaw, Shupansky, and Fishel, and hopefully Hanks and Dahlien as well all from the recent U23 squad. Anybody have any news on G Thompson's injury?
read somewhere Hayes mentioning that Rodman will return in July—-but would this mean July 2 vs Canada?. If so, I don’t get why her Spirit club wouldn’t be upset about it since she hasn’t played for them yet available for the NT(you would think the Spirit could sue her for breach of contract( Lavelle played 15 & 10 minutes in the last two games as a sub for Gotham. Bethune started the last game for that club. Hopefully Hayes takes the #7 Canada serious. US still #1 but lost 50 points since the start of the year(take it due to hometown losses to Brazil & Japan. Not 100% sure how the rankings are formulated math wise , but with #2 Spain .& #3 Germany just about 30-34 points behind, if either one goes unbeaten & wins the Euros, coupled with us loosing to Canada, then it’s conceivable that we could loose are number one ranking. Though Canada’s frontline of Huitema. Leon & Prince aren’t exactly shooting the lights out of the goal nettings, their strongest point always been defense, though arguably their two best. Buchanan & Lawrence, haven’t been regular starters these days for Chelsea(or at least missing in some of their big games. But watch out for an couple of newbies they might spring up—20 year old Olivia Smith(7 goals in the WSL) as well 18 year old Chukwu(who had an star performance in the u20 Concacaf(where Canada upset the US)
No, I don't think so. I believe Hayes' statement was about Rodman's return to play at all, not specifically for country. Since the June 26, 29, and July 2 games are all part of the same camp, I would guess they wouldn't bring Rodman in until the next window, which I believe is not until October. Unlike some previous NT coaches, Hayes has shown an inclination to leave players with their clubs when the situation called for it (whether because of a recovery for injury or for rest).
June/July roster is here with 24 players and lots of new/new-ish faces. Twenty three will be named for each match roster: GOALKEEPERS (3): Angelina Anderson (Angel City FC; 0), Claudia Dickey (Seattle Reign FC; 0), Mandy McGlynn (Utah Royals; 3) DEFENDERS (10):Kerry Abello (Orlando Pride; 1/0), Jordyn Bugg (Seattle Reign FC; 0/0), Naomi Girma (Chelsea FC, ENG; 46/2), Lilly Reale (Gotham FC; 0/0), Tara McKeown (Washington Spirit; 6/0), Avery Patterson (Houston Dash; 4/0), Izzy Rodriguez (Kansas City Current; 0/0), Emily Sams (Orlando Pride; 4/0), Emily Sonnett (Gotham FC; 108/2), Gisele Thompson (Angel City FC; 3/0) MIDFIELDERS (6): Croix Bethune (Washington Spirit; 3/0), Sam Coffey (Portland Thorns FC; 35/2), Claire Hutton (Kansas City Current; 3/0), Rose Lavelle (Gotham FC; 110/24), Sam Meza (Seattle Reign FC; 0/0), Olivia Moultrie (Portland Thorns FC; 7/2) FORWARDS (6): Lynn Biyendolo (Seattle Reign FC; 80/24), Michelle Cooper (Kansas City Current; 6/1), Yazmeen Ryan (Houston Dash; 9/0), Emma Sears (Racing Louisville; 5/1), Ally Sentnor (Utah Royals; 9/4), Alyssa Thompson (Angel City FC; 19/1) https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...roster-matches-republic-of-ireland-and-canada
Is Phallon Tullis-Joyce being given this window off? I thought she was the obvious #1. Is this just to find a #2 & #3 out of the three GKs that are in camp? I kind of wish we would get information as to the why of each selection and the desires of the staff as to performance.
All the European-based players are being given this window off, except for Girma. So, also no Heaps, Fox, Yohannes, Macario, etc. Hayes is continuing to develop depth in the player pool.
Missed the chance to edit, but this should have been 25 players in camp with 23 named to the match day roster.
Wow, 10 defender and only 6 midfielders? Really happy to see Bethune called back up. Lineup will be interesting.
AArgh! The evidence that Emma knows her business is mounting by the match; let her do what she was brought in to do, can we? And it is way early to declare Phallon the #!, isn't it? She has a life and a soccer life outside the National team and may need the time off, and there will need to be younger ones than she in the depth chart anyway-- she's new, but she's not young, and now is the time to be still looking at people. And I certainly disagree with your final sentence; nothing good can come of disseminating such "information" among a fanbase inclined to pick flaws, even mimic the outrage mechanisms afoot in our political lives. "Gotcha" is a way of life on the internet. She'll spend unnecessary time defending things said and misunderstood in the past; misunderstood by people demanding the defense as their right as fans. Fans get to watch and be entertained; that's our role. We get to argue amongst ourselves from what we do know, but we aren't entitled to demand or even request more information than is offered. This player is insecure about their talent, that player overestimates theirs, and part of Emma's job is to manage to boost the one and chill the other without letting them aggravate each other's weak spots. That's a lot easier to do if you are not on record as thinking this or that. A coach can get a reputation as false simply from wanting more of something in February, and then not wanting an excess of it in November. And there's no place to go from there... Push a button, get this diatribe--sorry about that. Aargh!
As @lil_one said, Hayes said (last week) she was not bringing in European based players other than Girma. There is also an aspect to what Hayes does that is unknown to a lot of fans of the WNT in that Hayes is a student of how to train and play female athletes. She has spoken about this in multiple press conferences (and some players have said this as well), and when she does what she does, I always assume she is more knowledgeable than I am about what the female players need. Because she has read the research and I have not. I'm thinking also about what she said about Rodman's return in that light because all I know is how males should recover and train.
Just to add another reason: if any coach were to give more detail on the reasoning/thought process of their roster selection, it would also reveal more info to the opponent, probably more info than the team would want the opposing coaching staff to know.
Hayes also gave the reason for why the European-based players are getting this camp off: with their club schedule plus the NT schedule, these players may not be able to get another break away from soccer before the 2027 WWC. NWSL players will still be able to get that break in late December and January, but the players in Europe will not. She's looking big picture here.

Welp, if you are going to "develop depth" now is certainly time to do it. However, that time is drawing to a close. At some point this team needs to solidify itself for worlds.
Ireland got an 5-1 record so far in 2025, but their NT was downgraded to B status after failing to qualify for the Euros. Their opponents been much weaker now in their current League group which I take it they won, but now got to go through some wild card playoffs if they want to move to A status again. here’s been their games so far this year(all in NL group play( Albania, 2-1, 1-0 wins Greece 1-0, 4-0 wins Slovenia 1-0 win 0-4 loss the US should be an significant upgrade for them as compared who’ve they’ve been playin. Dunno who’s all coming, but their two most famous players are midfielder Denise Sullivan , who’s gotten all-star like praise at North Carolina Courage, (who’s she now been part of for nearly an decade)….and FB Katie Mcabe, who’s considered one of the world’s dirtiest players, not only due to her ruthless tackles but will try to fool the ref into giving cards out to her opponents with all the dives she takes. To her credit, she did win the Champions League this year with her Arsenal club. Otherwise I don’t think they go deeper Not having the much needed depth is probably why the US should be favorites even though our team been the most stripped I’ve seen in a long time.
