Highlights of the 2001 game [since it's been talked about]: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdUGy--8-Pc[/ame] I watched the video and came away thinking: "Damn the US has come along way in 8 years".
go to Bavarian Alps or Switzerland..hm..you will have wonderful snow and skiing..the best even....there is where I go skiing in winter...or sometimes to Austria... it depends on my mood I love snow.. is that not boring to have christmas in sunny California without snow???? Santa Claus come only to countries where is snow..
California has plenty of snow. If you want snow, drive two hours to the snow, then drive two hours back to where the weather is sane.
columbus was the only realistic choice.. dc and salt lake were just options because u$$f wanted to take a look at them.. i'd propose slat lake and DC each get a hex match... salt lake for t&t...but please NO honduras at rfk.. you want them to run the stadium again
Dude. It's not like you'd be planning a week-long extravagant getaway. You fly in, go to the hotel, go to the bar, get wasted, watch USA-MEXICO in person!, go back to the bar, get wasted again, then go back to your hotel, wake up hungover, stumble on to the plane and fly home. "Freaking Columbus, Ohio" is as good a place as any when it comes to the above activities.
As I posted in the Crew forum: For those of you coming out of town to the game, I checked historical temperatures in Columbus for February 11 (basically 2007 and 2008). Both were very similar with the high around 22 and the low around 3. Average is 35 high and 25 low but we've had some cold years lately and this year has been cold too. I love it.
Goff indicated earlier that the T&T match in April was the most likely match for RFK (if that old venue were to be used in 2009). I do tend to think the June (Euro off-season) match v Honduras does make sense for a MTZ or PTZ location (such as Rio Tinto or Qwest).
For planning purposes, if anyone's interested, the Columbus Blue Jackets are at home with the Colorado Avalanche on Feb. 10th.
Code: Historical temperatures for Feb 11 from Weather Underground: Year H L Mean Temp @ 7.53 EST 2008 - 18 03 10 18 2007 - 25 03 14 24 2006 - 37 23 30 31 2005 - 30 19 24 30 2004 - 36 19 28 33 2003 - 33 10 20 24 2002 - 35 26 30 33 2001 - 32 17 24 27
Wow 18 degrees last year?! Let's hope it's the same again. I simply cannot wait for this game! USSF did the right thing in selecting Columbus again, have to give them props for that.
I was on the field shooting pictures for Andy Mead's "Emerald City Gazette," right in front of the supporters' section behind the north goal. I loved the fact that both goals were scored right in front of me. -- edit -- around the 7:48 mark of the first video, I'm the guy right behind Carlos Llamosa wearing the gray gloves and the maroon jacket, celebrating the goal instead of taking pictures.
Mathis' pass to Wolff - he is still the only player in my recollection of US Soccer who would have the vision to see that pass, the balls to try it, and the skill to execute it. US World Cup 2002 may very well not have happened if not for Mathis 2001.
I'd expect the weather to look at lot like 2007. There is a La Nina this year, and its been unseasonably cold since Thanksgiving. Guys, 2001 was nothing. First off, it was almost March, we start getting even slightly warm days (40's-50's) on occasion that late. This time, its going to be mid-February, closer to January than Marsh. It WILL be colder. Second, in 2001 there was almost no wind. It can get windy here. Let me tell you from experience, 28 degrees and no wind is one thing. 28 degrees with a 20 mph wind is quite another. Expect it to be COLDER, and WINDIER (I don't think that is an actual word) this time around. The wind chill could be REALLY low. Frankie won't be the only one in tights.
It's also ironic that McBride's horrible injury led to Wolff entering the game, who ended up scoring the 1st and dribbling past 4 Mexicans to set up the 2nd. How history could have been different!
You got to be kidding me! That is about the stupidest racist comment I have read on this sight. You think because someone is Mexican they are more affected by cold weather? What an idiot!
well california is famous for beaches, sunshine.. never known that there is snow in california.. i have a friend in california..but he never told me..such a friend.....i will complain by him for bad information. still it is not that so famous as our Alps... I prefer skiing in Alps...Bavarian, Swiss or Austrian why should i travel so far away for a snow..when i have it not so far away? well if had a nice american friend, maybe i would join with him.. so maybe someday i will visit your american mountains...
