haha at the end of the highlight tape on mlsnet you can hear the lil fort singing "from the halls of foxboro stadium, to the seats of section 2" also the FSC announcer was calling FC Dallas the Fire.
Sing with me...you all know the tune! Great time at the Phoenix Landing. Exhilarating game with ups and downs. Congrats on the first piece of Silverware. It's been a while coming for the Revs as they've been among the best MLS teams since Nicol took over. One of these years you guys will wind up with the big one, but for now this is a nice start. Again, congrats.
Reis gave Monty his medal...he said to Monty, "I have a few of these at home...you deserve it. " I was standing next to Monty when he came by. The medal actual fell off the ribbon...they look kinda cheap...but whatever we won the ********ing open cup
Yeah, but niether does Riley, Nicol or Mariner, not to mention the other guys who you can't really see in the pic. It would be a nice gesture if it was the case, but I'll wait until Monty posts it here. What do you mean? Yeah, there are teams that MLS "would like to see" in there, but if they set up the rules based on whatever competitive criteria, they can't decide to change the rules once the teams they want don't make it. Then again, given the Revs overall management philosophy of not fielding a full roster, playing international club tournament "home" games outside the region, and generally half-assing it in a lot of ways, it would not surprise me if the Revs were to "volunteer for the good of the league" to give their spot to Pub Team FC. If that's the case, they should at least get a 2nd round draft pick for their efforts. But I'm not going there today. Today is a day for celebrating a CUP! Let's enjoy it now, and with a little good fortune, we'll have another one to celebrate in a couple of months!
Just another random thought about last night at The Landing. At halftime, and in the bathroom of all places, one of the bar patrons (a 40-something Englishman), asked what match was on. I explained that it was our equivalent of the FA Cup FInal, and that our local club was participating. He looked impressed, then said that we represented our team well, and that he thought we'd win. "Oh my haircut (oh my haircut)! Is better than that (is better than that)! Oh my haircut is better than that... it's got a flip and a fade, Oh my haircut is better than that!" Also, the Globe reporter was there from start to finish and talked to a ton of people... really nice guy to boot. I believe the City Weekly section is part of the Sunday paper, and while I don't know when the article's slated to run, I can't wait to read it.
Well, for waht it's worth, our own JW not only had them include the Revs in the normal sports roundup, but also talked about it at length along with the Sox' win. Baby steps. It was a significant moment, but coming on the same night of a spectacular Red Sox playoff opening win means it would be overshadowed by that no matter what He did say someting in the postgame interview, and for someone who can type Scottish fluently, ah cood nae unnerstan a wuurd e wass sayin. I did ask my friend, a linguistics professor at Harvard, to review the tape, and after several times he was able to decipher it as: "Greet, fockin greet! We wunnna cooop! Aye, thisssiss fockin greeet! Werrra greee'ist fitba cloooob inna werl, an ye cannae dispuuuute thet, Jimmeh!" I also found it amusing that a couple of players came by and rubbed him in the head, knocking his glasses off when he was being interviewed.
My co-worker congratulated me this morning during the fire drill, said he heard all about it on NPR this morning. Since this is Boston, and nobody watches the Big 3, they all listen to NPR anyway, right? He said they went into an explaination about the the victory and the significance.
It was even in the Seattle PI today... http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/scorecard/othernews.asp?articleID=212275
Congratulations on the win, guys! Just wanted to give a big thumbs up to the supporters that traveled down to Dallas. You all sounded great down on the field!
The Kool-Aid is sweeter today On a recent thread, I admitted to being a Kool-Aid drinker, and today I am especially proud of it. The Revs played great soccer last night and what a thrill it was to see them hoist the Cup. I am especially happy for Steve Ralston, a founding member of MLS who continues to bring his "A" game every time and is a total class act. Along with all of the Revs, Steve truly deserves to be an "official" winner. A special loud Well Done!! to the core group who have contributed years of great effort to the Revs, and now have something in the trophy case - Ralston, Twellman, Noonan, Heaps, Joseph, and Reis, along with Coach Nicol and Coach Mariner. Great job, guys, a total team effort.
Thursdays and Sundays. Save your sarcasm. After each of these myths are exploded (ex., that the Revs would never take the USOC seriously), the rest keep getting perpetuated. The Revs are champions. Only losers find ways to complain when they should be celebrating. Ah, but you just did.
So I'll be stealing Monty's medal next time I'm over Anyhizzoowwwwww, I've been getting a lot of crap on other (non-BigSoccer) message boards. It's hilarious that I'm respectful when the other team's win a cup, but when we win, it's a meaningless trophy and I get mocked Oh well, we still have more to show from this season than all the haters, so **** off and die away fans
In 1996, the league had just begun, Twelve years later, a cup we have not won, Along came a man, who won European gold, He became our coach and put us on the championship road He played for Liverpool, winning is his thing And to his praises we shall always sing. Look what he has done for us: he's filled us with cheer. God bless Steve Nicol, our coach who knows no fear! You can talk about other teams and how they are so great, But when they play New England losing is their fate, We're the greatest football team, to all it's plain and clear, Thanks to Steve Nicol, who lead us to the cup this year. If we were all in Scotland he would be our King And to his praises we shall always sing. Look what he has done for us: he's filled us all with cheer. Long live Steve Nicol the man who brought us a Championship Year!
Does the $100,000 go to the players or to the organization? I'd like to see some advertising if the team keeps it.
Jesus Christ, like you said, it was just sarcasm. It was a joke, I wasn't trying to rain on your parade buddy. I'll be sure to trade more lightly next time seeing how sensitive some of us can be
After 60 years, the Dewar Cup returns to New England: Code: 1917 Fall River Rovers 1924 Fall River SC 1925 Shawsheen FC (Andover, MA) 1927 Fall River SC 1930 Fall River SC 1931 Fall River SC 1932 New Bedford SC 1941 Pawtucket FC 1947 Ponta Delgada SC (Fall River) 2007 New England Revolution
Re: The Kool-Aid is sweeter today I think today and the next few days (until Saturday) we are all Kool-Aid drinkers.
