I was pretty bummed to hear the announcement tonight that tickets for this game would be priced at regular MLS prices. But I just got an e-mail from the Crew that says I already have a ticket for this game. All full-season ticket holders can use the "International" game ticket to gain admission to the Crew-Fire USOC game. I guess that's a somewhat smart move on their part. They gave people a ticket that had no match attached to it, but luckily the Crew advanced, so they gained an extra match that they could use for that ticket. I know its kind of screwy, but its better than telling people to trade it in for credit at the end of the season. All time Open Cup record vs the Fire: 1 match played --- 0 wins, 0 draws, and 1 loss.
A really hinkey loss, thanks to the knobgobblers over at the USSF HQ in Chicago. I'm not one taken to believing conspiracy theories, but that game stunk to high heaven. Yeah, I'm still bitter.
So this game is on a Tuesday night? I really hope that our team form has improved by then. I guess we, in theory, should be getting one of our allocations in about a week. Hopefully it's freakin' superman and he can turn this team around. Can we use an allocation on a new coach?
Honestly, I am much more excited about this game than Saturday's. I don't know who else watched the Wed night game, but I could only think one thing after I turned it off. The Fire are a really, really bad team right now. Defense - Terrible. Midfield - Andy Williams has one moment of brilliance and 89 minutes of nothing else. Armas is past it. Forwards - Completely lacking in confidence. Honestly, there is no excuse not to win this game, Chicago is that bad.
Hang, I thought the same thing after last night's game. Chicago looked unispired. By the time we reach the Open Cup game on Tuesday, Chicago will have played Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday. Not only will they be a little tired but they certainly can't be brimming with confidence. If your defense continues to keep the opposition from getting behind it for close in shots we should have no trouble advancing. Z
But of course we both know, given the history, that it won't be that easy and this is exactly the sorta game in which we find a way to lose against Chicago. Still, I gotta imagine it will be a 2 or 3-1 victory. Damaracus could even be gone by then as well. Overated piece of crap.
We are Crew fans after all and soccer is a cruel beatch. I'll feel more confident after we whoop up on the Revs. Z
I hate Chicago...I am loving seeing them wallow in the depths of poor play. They aren't DC and don't have the history of ripping our collective heart out, so even though we will prolly take them lightly and piss it away...I am still predicting a Golazo Bonanza like the final game of last year. Crew - 157 Chicago - 1 (Denton own goal)
LOL!! However, I think Denton's due for a natural hat trick: Columbus - 157 Chicago - 4 (Denton's Massive Play)
Interesting thread in the fire forum "Ralph - the next cunningham?" dogging our boy jc. I'd take jc over ralph any day of the week. but thats just me.
But Ralph has that cool afro thing sometimes... the best Cunny has ever done was the mini-fro that Kobe sometimes has.
he seems to be proud of the semi-buzz cut he has right now. i don't get it. he needs to "spiffy" it up a bit, maybe zak can help him out.
Anyways, about the Open Cup... If you can, go to this game. If the Crew advance, we play our next game on the road. Quarterfinal matchups from ussoccer.com: Aug. 4 Winner 29 vs. Winner 32 Chicago Fire or Columbus Crew at Richmond Kickers Univ. of Richmond Stadium; Richmond, Va. 7 p.m. ET Chicago Fire or Columbus Crew at D.C. United RFK Stadium; Washington, D.C. 7:30 p.m. ET You never know how these things will go. Even if we win the whole thing, this could be our last Open Cup game at home this year.
Well, it's almost here. Looks like Chicago will be without Damarcus Beasley, as reports have him flying to the Netherlands to meet with PSV. We should win this game just as easily as we beat them a couple weeks ago.
It's now official: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/soccer/07/18/bc.som.lgns.beasleydutch.r/index.html
Well, I don't think there's anyway V-Army can be worse on Tuesday than it was yesterday. I think there were only about 10 loyal supporters in the section last night. I hope to have some more help chanting for the USOC game. I'm excited as hell for this one. I'm done with work at noon on Tuesday, then I have all afternoon to get psyched for the game. GO CREW!
From the article: Beasley is the latest high-profile signing of an American player since goalkeeper Tim Howard's move to Manchester United from the MetroStars, and the first in the European transfer window for an American. McBride, how quickly you've been forgotten...
My fears of a piss-poor V-Army section have now gone by the wasteside! Hang, you mutha ********er, I'm glad to hear you'll be in town. Combine Hang with a drunk Wittler, and now I know that the V-Army section will be top class on Tuesday night. Drive safely, Hippy.
let's get this one, damnit. i'm so pumped for it. bring on section 8. bring on the fire. hell, piss on the fire. my prediction is that Cunny will score 2 goals and lead us to the quarters. he really hates Chicago...briefly talked to him on the concourse after the Syracuse game and he told us (some V-Army members) to get psyched for the Fire match that weekend (July 3rd). let's go crew!
