Rapids head across I-70 to face the Wizards in US Open Cup play. Let the debate begin: Play starters or Bench? 100 Tickets put aside for away supporters, if you are interested here is who to contact. Blake Strobel bstrobel@sportingkc.com Office: 913-951-3532 Mobile: 515-210-2243
It's tempting to go, but airfare is prohibitive. 9+ hours in the car is what google maps says it is from N Boulder to Livestrong Park. I say the Rapids should go for the win, if some of the injured players are healthy and fit they should be playing. At the same time they should not risk re-injuring a hamstring, etc. The next MLS match isn't till the 16th in Vancouver, so there would seem to be plenty of time to rest players between matches. Although I don't know when the 5th round of the USOC is scheduled. I know that the USOC isn't of the same stature as the MLS Cup or Supporters Shield to most people, but it is significant.
You can get out there in about 8 hours. I have done the drive twice to see the PIDs. You are lucky they aren't playing a freaking minor league baseball stadium with a foul pole right in front of you!!
I just noticed that you guys play SKC in a Reserve match next weekend, so you'll have the US Open Cup match on Tuesday in KC, and then a rematch in the Reserve match on Saturday in Denver. Interesting schedule - it already seemed pretty likely that both teams would play a lot of starters, with the Reserve match 4 days later it seems even more likely. I'm really looking forward to this next round of the USOC - with the MLS break, the teams should have no reason not to go all out and play all healthy starters. Good luck against KC.
This game better get streamed. I say if a guy is completely healthy, he is available for selection. If they are still nursing an injury though, they don't start for sure and maybe even not in the 18. Ceus gets the start though. That is one of the cool things about Cup competitions. Gives the back up GK a chance to get some game time.
Make the trip. Well worth it for the stadium, good BBQ and beers. Plus this is gonna feel like an actual legit league match with both teams pretty much fielding all starters. Plus it's still a better drive that the couple from Orlando made last weekend to the USOC game here.I can't imagine staying in a car that long.
Here's a reason to play the starters, the draw for the next round: Michigan Bucks (PDL)/Dayton Dutch Lions (USL PRO) Winner at Sporting Kansas City (MLS): LIVESTRONG Sporting Park; Kansas City, Kan.; 7:30 p.m. CT OR Michigan Bucks (PDL)/Dayton Dutch Lions (USL PRO) Winner at Colorado Rapids (MLS):Dick's Sporting Goods Park; Commerce City, Colo.; 7 p.m. MT We beat KC we get a home game against a lower-league side in the quarterfinals. A HOME GAME?!?!?!?!
Starters all the way: plenty of time to rest up before league action resumes and winning the USOC may be our best route to return to the CL. I truly enjoyed the CL games, and, barring another round of injuries, the team should be getting healthier and more used to each other as the later rounds of this tournament occur.
I agree. Starters... Treat this like an MLS semifinal game for the MLS Cup hold nothing back. Who really cares if we loose our next league match, play reserves to rest starters in that meaninless game not a US Cup game our first home game since the dark ages is at stake. Please!!!
So Wynne will still be out. Think CoGuy has it right, Moor will not start either. I would be surprised if he does start. However, if Rapids have lead I can see him getting subbed in.
I would also like to see them " go for it" ( start moor) given next game against non- MLS team at home. Maybe a strong ref will make it easier for them to put him out there.
Interesting that we haven't seen the travel roster. For the TB match it was put out by the Rapids on the previous Sunday. The Rapids should go "all in" for this one. They don't have another match for over a week after KC - plenty of time to rest and recover.
