http://www.laprensahn.com/deportes....&fecha=20040402 (scroll to the schedule at the bottom of the article) Interesting, it lists them as playing Ireland a few days later. Too bad the US could not play Ireland and have a mini US Cup. "2 de junio EUA-Honduras Washington 4 ó 5 de junio Honduras-Irlanda Washington" I looked and could not find another thread on the subject.
Well that would be cool! What an atmosphere the Hondurans and (North)Americans created in their last match at RFK. It was one of the loudest things I have ever heard that didn't involve explosives. GM
Dude, are you looking past Greneda? Did you see the US game against Haiti? I'm sure whoever the Grenedian coach is he's better than Bruce Arena and will surely outcoach him in a home and home series. If Arena doesn't call Freddy up for that game we have no chance at all.
home and away. home and home means both games are in the same place. a home and home is what the Revolution had to endure in Costa Rica.
Well so many knobs out there think it is home & home there's almost no way to differentiate. Even the isn't a true safeguard anymore
I'd have to agree that a home and home, in hockey anyway, indicates that the same 2 teams play consecutively, with each team getting one game at home. Two games at home would be a '2 game home stand.'
The prices for US v. Mexico at the Cotton Bowl (April 28th) are: http://www.ussoccer.com/schedule/content.sps?iType=4165&icustompageid=9611 For US v. Poland at Soldier Field (July 11th -- doubleheader with an MLS match): http://www.ussoccer.com/schedule/content.sps?iType=4165&icustompageid=9609
Thank you, most folks who follow int'l soccer call it home-and-home - I agree, that makes no damn sense, it is home-and-away - but I hear it all the time, even like on Sky Sports News, etc. Stupid Brits, who taught them English anyway
Each team plays away too, why not call it away and away? Home and away easily makes the most sense, because each team plays at home and away. I'm coming from my team's perspective, I could give a toss what the other team's up to.
FYI, this game has now been confirmed, but not for RFK -- Foxborough is getting US vs. Honduras on June 2nd. Also, for those who were worried about RFK getting the El Salvador qualifier, you may be pleased to know that Foxborough has been given that one, too. So, RFK's only shot at a semifinal round game is against the Panama/St. Lucia winner on Wednesday, October 13. http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=58264
My prediction: RFK will get NOTHING more until we are promised an SSS, this is their bargaining chip. Sneaky and dirty, just like Uncle Phil likes it. Damn weekday games, I'd love to see this one. Oh well, that's why there are TVs. I say we pass on the Panama/St. Lucia game - unless they offer free transportation to the away leg if you buy a ticket to the home game
Oh yeah. Way outnumbered. I wonder if anyone in US Soccer thought it wouldn't be the case this time around. Especially with the game being on the Saturday of a three-day weekend.
Panama was the match that Steven Goff reported that RFK wanted. I bet they get it. I was at the Gold Cup Tripleheader, and actually watched all three matches. I think the Costa Rican fans changed from Red to Blue during the Rev-Metro match. It was really odd. Every seat that had a red-clad Costa Rican supporter had a El Salvadorian fan. I guess one of the DC mods needs to move the thread to either US or Revolution. If you move it to US, I will take over there.
And if RFK does get US vs. Panama/St. Lucia, the USSF will have matched their semifinal round locations from the last cycle in exact order: '00 - Barbados @ Foxborough, Guatemala @ DC, Costa Rica @ Columbus '04 - El Salvador @ Foxborough, Panama @ DC, Jamaica @ Columbus
