USA v Canada 01/18/03 @ 6:30pm http://www.ussoccer.com/events/report.sps?iEventID=10271&categoryid=85 I believe this is a pay per view event so my next question is do we lobby a local pub to set up a watch party, bug the wizards to set up a watch party, or would someone be willing to host a watch party. This is a Saturday night affair and I wouldn't mind an evening in Lawrence afterwards if it came down to it. Although I'd still prefer something in KC. Anyone think we'd get McCoys or O'Dowds to buck up if we could guarantee at least 20+ beer drinkers to show? I'd even pay a small cover to the Arrowhead club if they'd offer a full bar (to those who qualify of course).
I would contact the Wizards and ask about it. After the World Cup watch parties, they could keep the "tradition" going.
That's right I didn't even think about the fact that the MLS Draft is here in town just the day before. There should be plenty of soccer buzz going on and more than a few travelers around that would like to take in the USMNT game. I think the Wizards organization should jump on this and announce a watch party at the Arrowhead Pavillion or Club. As long as they do it up right I'll go even to see our youngin's vs. the canucks. Plus with Klein and Garcia in camp it's very possible both could make the gameday roster for some added local pull for the event. Check back Hala...
I hope some time in the near future the Wizards front office will get into our heads. When I say that I mean that instead of fans calling the front office suggesting good ideas such as the one here, that the front office already have it planned.
Actually... if they wanted to do something really cool, the Wizards should hook up with the NSCAA and hold the watch party at Bartle Hall during the convention. That is assuming the conference is still going on that Saturday.
It is. The overlapping events are: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM "Coaches of Women Social" By Invitation Only 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM 'Success in Soccer Social' By Invitation Only 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Admiral Reception - By Invitation Only 6:00 PM - 12:00 AM Walt Chyzowych Memorial 4-A-Side Tournament Other than the 4-a-side tourney, it's all end of the convention drinking parties. I bet something could be arranged.
I'll be in town for the draft, but I leave Saturday for St. Louis. A big watch party would be fun. I'm sorry I'll miss it.
Most of the Wiz staffers will apparently be working the convention, and it cost big bucks to get into the convention. Looks like a watch party will have to be at someone's place or a soccer friendly bar with DirecTV.
I emailed Raul Cobos (Wizards Youth Soccer Coordinator) about the idea and he said that there may be something in the works in conjuction with the Wizards Crusaders.
I would love to watch this match, but I have a thing about PPV, especially when it's a friendly. If it were a World Cup Qualifier, then I'd consider ordering it if the Mouse weren't going to telecast. Are there any updates on any pubs who will showing it, or is anyone with DirectTV planning on having a watch party? I will be more than glad to pitch in an even portion of the PPV cost, and I can bring my own beer -- heck, I'm even house-trained. I have blessings from my wife to go and have a good time (she doesn't like when I watch at home when the US plays....). Anyone?
