At that point in time? By the end of 2014, Besler and Soares were about the same age. But Besler had won MLS Defender of the Year honors, he'd been named to the MLS Best XI twice, and he'd started every game in the 2014 World Cup. That was around the time he turned down the Fulham offer. At that same time, Soares was a solid defender for New England, but he was uncapped, had never been named to an MLS All Star roster let alone an MLS Best XI, and left New England as a free agent to join a club that had just finished the season in the bottom half of the table in Norway.
I believe is older than half of the players that were in the 2014 World Cup roster and older than 3 in the 2010 roster. Though 12 or so players older than him in this World Cup.
🚨Chelsea ready to sell Gabriel Slonina and the one-time US international is exploring his options. The 22-year-old goalkeeper hasn't played a senior minute for the Blues since joining from Chicago Fire in 2022. 🇺🇸https://t.co/OMM5wzTQ64— Nizaar Kinsella (@NizaarKinsella) June 8, 2026 Slonina
Hard to see Slonina having much value. Hopefully he lands on his feet somewhere decent and can get his career back on track.
He'll get another opportunity. I mean, the guy has already demonstrated that he can play at an MLS level. At the very worst, he'll get an MLS opportunity. I was joking up above. Chicago sells Brady to Europe in the summer window and re-signs Slonina. It works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Gaga is still only 22 years old. It would be so glorious for Chicago to sell him for ~10 million, reacquire him for almost nothing, build him up again, and then sell him again for 10 million!!!!!!!!!!!! Do it!!!!!!! There are always MLS teams that need keepers. DCU is starting Sean Johnson. Sign Slonina in the summer and pass the baton for next season.
Who can afford his salary? If "Chelsea selling" means that Chelsea will pay someone for getting the kid off their hands then, yes, otherwise he is with them for two more years. What wouldn't be a disaster for 24 years old keeper with proven expirience who is financially set for life.
Does he develop if he's not playing in high quality games before age 24, that probably has a pretty big impact on his post-24 earnings...
................yes, they may have to loan him out & pay part of his salary. Although, what does money mean to Chelsea? They could buy out that contract and let him walk. Let's not pretend like Chelsea makes money decisions that have to make sense. What are they paying Mudryk right now? Matt Turner is on loan to MLS right now..................................
Yes, I was just commenting on "Chelsea selling". The seller, buyer and releaser. All in one. They might offer something like $3M to buy Gaga's contract out, and the agent should chase MLS clubs to find $500-600K contract.
Hoffenheim have decided against signing Cole Campbell on a permanent basis. Hoffenheim felt the buy option for the player was too high, so he is likely to return to Borussia Dortmund for the time being. It seems Campbell has a market in England - It looks increasingly likely that…— BVB Newsblog (@bvbnewsblog) June 12, 2026
Celtic have shown concrete interest in Cole Campbell; talks have already taken place. 🗞 @berger_pj #BVB— BVB Newsblog (@bvbnewsblog) June 15, 2026 This account is a little wide of the mark at times, but still.
A fast guy who really just runs straight? No. His youth performances made him a lot closer to Cade Cowell than anything. That's not a bad player, but he's not a top flight prospect.
I was a bit down on his performance at the U20 World Cup. But I don’t watch him week to week to know how typical a performance that is for him.
I think certain aspects of a player's game are somewhat easy to quickly determine. I don't think he's a bad prospect, but his ball skills didn't really look commensurate with a Top 5 league right now. Could he maybe hold his own somewhere as a more defensive player with speed? Sure. I'm not sure he's miles behind Kevin Paredes when he went over. Or that Cowell is. But the SPL isn't a terrible league, and I think a player like him would be well served to be in a place he might get some reps and focus. Two Bundesliga teams are passing on him -- where do we think he's playing? Go the SPL, go to the Eredivisie, go to MLS and get some reps and improve the on ball element of your game.
Amorim the new coach at Milan…….. wooooof Pulisic needs a strong cup more than ever to gtfo lol. does this guy help or hurt musah?
Update on this one: after spending most of the World Cup with the senior national team as a training GK (presumably he was also on the provisional roster in case one of the 3 GKs got injured), Johnathan Tannenwald posted that he departed camp this morning. Coincidentally, the Danish transfer window opens today (June 15th)...
Musah is on the list of players Milan wants to sell and Amorim has asked for 2 CBs, 2 WBs, 1 DM, and a striker.
They were doing OK when he left. They were 6th and 3 of their 5 losses were at Man City, Arsenal and Villa. He was fired for his criticism of the club.
