Unless you time it right, sort of mid to late homegrown contract. Alex Freeman for instance.

Its a rarity for that first contract away from MLS to be a banger.

...................Tessmann's contract at Venezia wasn't huge. He was transferred to Lyon, and that second contract in Europe is now estimated at 2.6 to 3 million (depending on what source you're looking at ). That salary would make him one of the highest paid Americans in MLS.

......................and now we're hearing of further interest higher up the chain.
Lyon’s Tanner Tessmann not receptive to Brentford interest - Yahoo Sports

But Tanner Tessmann is YOUNGER than Sebastian Berhalter by half a year. He's been there for years working his way up the chain for 5 years now.

Sebastian Berhalter is going NOW. Could a Venezia-type of club be interested? I guess so, but they wouldn't be buying for potential.

I'm of the opinion that Euro clubs are scouting MLS players like never before, and interested in MLS players like never before. HOWEVER, they're mostly interested in our raw materials. The teens to 21 year olds. Guys in that range that they can polish and then sell on. An Alex Freeman type.

They're not interested as much in a 27 year old Miles Robinson. EVEN THOUGH he's better than plenty of CBs in the Eredivisie. Those clubs want players that they can develop and "flip" for profit.

Cannon got screwed by Lopez and only signed with Boavista because Lopez was buying them. It was originally supposedly Lille that was interested in Cannon, but either because he knew he was going to sell or for financial reasons, Lopez and Co. told Cannon to sign with Boavista and in a year, he'd be transferred to Lille.

Cannon believed him, or thought he had no better options. Then Lopez sold Lille and stranded Cannon even though he had bought Bordeaux.

Which is, you know, no matter how good it sounds, don't trust a pathological liar.

There was a lot going on in Dallas with Cannon that initiated a quick transfer away from the club and a fresh start.

FC Dallas condemn 'repulsive' racist comments and threats sent to Reggie Cannon - BBC Sport

[Notice that story from the BBC was mid August. His transfer to Boavista was announced Sep. 9th.]

There was discussion amongst the fans in Dallas that the club just took the best decent offer in that window. It wasn't really about maximizing their fee or waiting for the best deal.

Reggie pretty much threw all of the fans under the bus. A few racist knuckleheads deserved his criticism and contempt but the rest of us loved the guy. Did put the FO in a tough spot. After that and his naivety in going to Boavista I'd say his judgement could be questioned. I hope he grew up.

Also, there was the kerfuffle about the response to that incident.

Reggie called the fans who booed him "disgusting." He revealed that the Hunts asked him to apologize to those fans, which he found totally inappropriate. He expressed frustration with management for not initially backing him enough over the matter. Dan Hunt eventually wrote a statement of support, but the damage had been done.

Anyway, the point we're both making vis-a-vi the Cannon move to Boavista (with potential Lille option) is....................that was a "let's both start over here" sale. If Dallas and Reggie were more patient and willing to find the "best opportunity," something better may have materialized.

I mildly disagree. They are probably interested in a Miles Robinson but not for his MLS salary. MLS youngsters go there before they get real money. Aidan Morris for instance, was an immediate starter when he moved to Championship but he's earning a measly 650k which after taxes is nor more and maybe less than what he earned in Columbus. Meanwhile, Christian Roldan is earning 1.5 million.

According to ESPN, the dispute was related to something alluded to in the thread above—who owns the risk if he gets hurt between now and summer? Each club wants the other to bear the risk.

    Yeah, the whole thing doesn't make sense.;
Why wouldn't both parties wait until the summer window?

Its not really an issue for us as USMNT fans. If PSV wants to sell Pepi, and we now know they they're amenable to it, they'll have suitors in the summer window. It could be Fulham for all we know.

both teams would like to,lock in the deal now for planning purposes, which makes complete sense. Both would also like to be free from the injury risk, which also makes sense, but they can’t both get that.

Sure, but this is the reason deals happen when they do in transfer windows. :)

As a USMNT fan I'm happy that Pepi is finishing out the season getting playing time. Its unclear to me how many starts he'd have right now at Fulham with both Muniz and Jimenez available.

Pepi is still going to get his move this summer.

Per the discussion above, Pepi staying at PSV has been productive.

.............but anyway. Wesseh move official. He's out of the Atlanta academy.

Unfortunately, Weston is doin his usual late season swoon. Hopefully he gets his game back over the last 2 games for both Juventus's and USMNT's sake.

Here's a post from his player thread. Seems he did ok but played three roles and ended at left back.

McKennie 6.5 – Less presence in the box (after all, now there is Vlahovic in that area which has long been his responsibility), but still a lot of sacrifice and useful work... in three different roles. In fact, he finishes his game as a left-back (from the 86th minute Gatti n/a).

Man I sure hope Ivory Coast don’t snag him.

Getting the passport for working options isn’t concerning.

The fact his dad loves Drogba so much that he named his son after him.. well.. that might indicate a strong allegiance to the Ivory Coast national team.. and he may push his son in that direction.

Weird how his year seemed to tail off. Anyone actually watch the game? Did he lose his spot for injury or performance, a blend of both?
